CB750 starter motor removal
« on: July 03, 2007, 03:35:17 PM »
I don't use the electric start ever because of problems with my switches, but my bike is really easy to kickstart.  I would therefore like to remove the starter motor entirely to save a bit of weight.

Are there any issues that I should know about?  Maybe an oil leak or something?  What should I know about the wiring?  Do you think that this would make the bike feel more top-heavy?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

A quick search will turn up many previous threads on this subject, including what to do to plug up the hole left by the starter, but in all honesty, just removing the starter won't make a noticeable difference in weight.  If you're doing other things to improve the performance of the bike or to save weight, then it can be one small step in the overall process, but won't do a whole lot by itself.

hey what's up.  i post a question a couple weeks ago.  i made a plug for mine.  i found a washer that fit on the outside of the motor ( under the cover) and covered it in sealant.  i then ran a bolt through it and put a washer on the inside wall of the starter bay.  i made a little bracket that bolted to the starter hole plug(the bolt and washers plugging the hole) and bolted the chrome cover to it. sorry no picts though.  i had to turn the cover around in order to make an easy bracket to mount it.  it took little time but i didn't want to leave the cover off
