YOU DAMNED KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!

Ha, don't get me started on the neighborhood kids who think my sprinkler is a summer toy and trample my grass.  ;D  I wouldn't mind so much if they'd at least ask me first.  ::)

I wish nature would do a better job of selecting out the chaff from the wheat, so to speak. The world is filling up with morons because we all think " How would I feel if it was me?" What a pointless waste of intellectual energy. It's not you, it's some other dumb ass, he or she deserves what they get. Why should I be more concerned with your welfare than you are? Just last week, a neighbor of mine came to talk to me about a stack of cinder blocks in my yard that his little girl ran into with her bike. He said I should be more mindfull of the safety of his children. I informed him that the "hazard" was on my property, that I bear no responsibility for the safety of his children, especially while they were trespassing and that if he wished to persue the matter he would find out in short order the quality of his dental coverage. I suspect he will instruct his brood that I am not one to be "f'ed" with and that it would be best to give a wide berth. He would be absolutely correct.

Well Cafe, I would not be too much of an a$$hole about it. He might not have anything on you as far as his kids are concerned but if he decides to be an ass, he could certainly bring up your yard as an "eyesore" and you could be ordered to clean it up.  this could be carried on endlessly. Now dont get me wrong. You are certainly right. You just might wish to start off less confrontational.

And anyway, when did we come to a place where the people who should be responsible aren't and the people who shouldn't be are?  I have wondered more than once about a society where a guy can eat himself to death and MacDonald's can be at fault.  A person's own children can get hurt doing something foolish on somebody else's land, and not only does their father not blame them (and himself), he actually thinks it's your fault.  And he comes over to your house to tell you so.
It's unbelievable to me sometimes that humans continue to survive at all.

My brother and I and the neighborhood kids used to have competitions to see who could ride their bike off the tallest object, straight onto the ground, without crashing.  The last one I participated in ended up with me doing a faceplant onto the pavement, and I had to start my first day of 4th grade with a huge, scabby fat lip!

Ahh, those were good times! :D

We used to race our bikes down a big long flight of steps in the local park, I dinged my wheel on one of the steps, it jammed in the brakes and over I went. I went back to school with 7 stitches in my chin, two broken teeth, a black eye, a heavily bruised ribcage and a broken wrist ::)

Happy times indeed ;D

I think that every kid with a bike should be made to watch this:
and every kid getting his drivers license should watch this:

Went for a spin the other day about 2 hours from the city while visiting family.  It was like being on another planet!  Rural kids are totally oblivious to traffic.

City kids learn very early that they'd better keep their ass out of the street or it is going to get hit!  Where I live now is only about 10 minutes from the city, so the kids (and their parents) seem to have the same healthy sense of danger when it comes to traffic.

My kids, (5 and 3) do not go anywhere NEAR the street unless a grown up is holding their hand.  Even at parking-lot car shows, they must always hold hands.  They also know that any deviation from this results in severe punishment (for their own safety)!

I don't think it's being an a$$hole to suggest to someone who confronts me on my land about the safety of thier children (while on my property). And, while the point is taken that people can make a mess for you even if they are clearly in the wrong, a stack of cinderblocks being used for a project that is delivered and put to use in 48 hours hardly constitutes an "eyesore". I think that my point was, if one is to be arrogant and selfish about their place in this world, said person should be prepared for an unsatisfactory response to their attitude. I am someone who believes that if everyone covers the bulk of their responsibility in this world, they should be given wide latitude for thier behavior. But woe be those who shirk their responsibility and demand equal or better respect for their place in this world. Especially in close proximity to me. ;D

To suggest, certainly not but when reading your post, it kinda came off that you gave him a veiled threat. Course this is a forum and the rest of us were not there so I can only speculate. As I said, you were right. It is his job to watch his kids and he cannot demand anything.
