It was on the History Channel.  Talked about Harleys/choppers, then the invasion of fast Brit bikes/cafe racers/Mods vs Rockers, then the new world order of Japanese bikes, and bit about motorcross/supercross.

In the segment about Japanese bikes they referred to the CB750 as the bike that changed the world.  :)

Dang, I missed it.  You're supposed to quit watching, run and boot up the computer and tell it's on.   ;)

Hopefully it will be repeated.

You don't mention if it was any good or not.

I'm sure they'll show it again--I'll give plenty of notice next time.  :)

Yes, it was a good episode.  It's hard to squeeze the entirety of motorcycling history into 1 hour, but they managed to cover all the major eras.

I've seen it a couple of times.  It eventually gets to making a point of saying basically Harley is the $h!t.  They refer to the Buell as the fastest machine on 2 wheels, and leave out the fact that it can't compete with any thing else.  They show other bikes, mention some significance, and then get back to Harleys.

What he said. It is kinda old now. I think the DVR guide said it was from 1999.

Yeah, I noticed they started and ended with Harleys and threw in that last tidbit about how they overtook Hondas as the best-selling bikes in America.

They did highlight the Vincent Black Shadow, and spent a decent bit of time on Hondas though.

I've seen it a couple of times before and watched parts of it again last night.  A little too Harley-centric for me, but worth watching anyway.

Yeah, that Willie G. is one hunka man! I taped it about 5 years ago. Right after that was about the Hells Angels, with Sonny Barger talking with his hand over his respirator tube...

What was that guy's name from New Zealand who built his own race bike from scratch?  I think it was called the B1000?

Burt Munro.  They made a great movie about it in 2005 called The Worlds Fastest Indian.  Anthony Hopkins plays the role.  It was based on the original documentary "Offerings to the God of Speed".  Great stuff!

I caught most of it. They kept showing clips of the Cafe racers and then cutting to commercial. Half an hour later they fianlly showed it and then I ended up watching till the end. Then I went to hunt electrical gremlins.

What was the rare combination of Norton frame and Vincent engine called?

They mention the Triton and then talked about the Vinton? I cant remember.

PS, Those mod clips they showed were Uber gay.

Saw the Brittan race at Daytona many moons ago.  Took lots of pictures of the bike in the paddock area.  I have no idea where they are now (back before digital cameras), but that bike was truley unique and a work of art in my eyes.

You are not alone.  I saw the bike at the opening of the "Art of the Motorcycle" exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC back in the late '90s.  The bike featured prominently in a special room at the very top of the spiral shaped museum along with one a few other special bikes.

Yes, truly something special.

It belonged in the Guggenheim.... but it belonged on the track too because it was just as functional as a racebike as it was as a piece of art.
