My first full year on the site so this is my first July 4th seeing this thread, although I had read of your bike's mileage in another thread.

Quite an inspiration.

I saw my CB750 K6 in late January 1979 at a bike dealer.Promised to buy it and brought it home May 1979. Used it from then and during the 80's. Let it rest from September 1990 to August 2009 when It took it home to my warm garage. Started to take it apart 2010, mostly engine. 2013 everything together. Spring 2014 back on the street again.

Now same thing as before, modifying it. Now in reverse order taking it back to how it once looked except for the engine that continue to be improved and reinforced.

I don't baby it much. It gets revved regularly to where I imagine redline would be if the tach was working right. It is ridden in triple digit temps down into the teens. I put good mileage on it during the last four relays loaded down with all my crap through those temps. It is subjected to the daily commute about 10 months out of the year, including some freeway and some stop and go surface streets. So it isn't abused but it is certainly used. If there is a secret to getting this high mileage, it is that I try to be smooth on throttle transitions and gear changes. This keeps everything in the drivetrain from slambanging into itself.

There is a fine line between aggressive acceleration and abuse, but as long as you don't cross the line, you will be OK.

If a 100 year old indian vegetarian can run a marathon no reason you can be riding at 91.

Your health is most important I am learning that as I am at the foot hills of getting old. Put it 100 miles on the 750 today partially in your honor. Was a nice ride through the hills for sure.

Congrats on another year on the road..................together.

I put about 50,000 miles on my K3 between '73 and '80...............then it more or less sat with a few short rides until the late '90s...............now has about 72k and still going...........but not intended to catch you.

If the Lizard gets to me, I plan to carry it to Bonneville...............its dry this year.

Keep her going, Greg...............its money in the bank

Another year gone by in a blink and now it has been 39 years and time to brag on my old bike again. I detailed some of the work I’ve done on it in the past year in the highest mileage thread. Most of it was replacing consumables. The bike continues its amazing reliability record. It is still my most dependable bike. Last month when I rode the 750 to Redding, the BMW GS was down because the neutral switch was puking gear oil and the CBR1000F remains down due to an apparent crack in the fuel tank. Next year will mark the 40th year I’ve had the 750. If my plans come to fruition, I’ll retire again. It has occurred to me a ride to the East Coast and back on the 750 would be interesting. It has proved it can still travel on all the Godzilla rallies.

So to celebrate, I took it on a ride a couple of days ago up Black’s Creek road along the south fork of the Boise River to get some scenic shots. It was 30 miles of gravel, dirt, and washboard. Didn’t faze the bike a bit. As Andy and others know, the SOHC4s are capable of cowtrailing.

I have been watching this barn slowly disintegrate for 23 years.

The first time I posted on this thread was NINE #$%*ing years ago! I had no children nine years ago, and now I have two. While some things are very different since then, many things are still exactly the same. I'm madly in love with the same woman, and I have the same two bikes, and I still ride all three of them as often as possible!

Thanks Stev-o, it is hard to go wrong with the roads here. Idaho is almost 500 miles long north to south, which makes for a lot of variety.

Thanks Gordon, I'll keep it going as long as the bike keeps going. You are right about the nine years going by quickly. It is crazy.

Absolutely! I ride dirt every chance I get. Love the photos Greg! I need to get you a Calendar all of your own!! Either that or come ride Idaho with you as tour guide

40 years ought to seem like a long time, but looking back on it I remember the day I bought the 750 like it was last week. I've told the story elsewhere in this thread so no need to repeat it. Jerry has had his for longer and a few others on the forum have theirs that they bought new. So not unheard of, but it still seems amazing to me to contemplate riding the same bike for 40 years with no overhaul, and no major problems. I said it before, if somebody had told me the day I picked the bike up that I would still be riding it almost daily in 2017 I would have laughed at the idea. Hell, weren't we all supposed to be flying aircars by now? Yet here I am. Seems unreal in a way, yet the bike has been so good I take for granted it will always be there when I want it. I expect it to take me to Colorado and back in August. Taking that for granted too.

Anyway, to celebrate the momentous occasion, I took it for a little ride this morning. I didn't have a lot of time so I just went up Bogus Basin Road to see if I could get some decent photos. Kind of hazy but I'll put a few up.

And by the way, selling price is now $158,266. It will cost more tomorrow.
