anyone insterested in a 350 twin forum?
« on: July 04, 2007, 01:03:01 PM »
Would anyone be interested (or know of a good forum that already exists) in a cb350 twin forum? I was looking around today for one and I couldn't quite find something comparable to this forum. This place has been invaluable for all of my cb's, but I feel like I'm pestering when I get into issues on my 350's. So, I though- Hey! I have some server space! I wonder if I build it will they come?

Any thoughts?

Well, I certainly don't know anything about that subject. But surely, with as many CB/CL & SL350s that should be out there, there would be an adequate number of folks that would be interested. After all, we've got several members here who have them too. Lots of luck with your decision and your efforts, if you go for it. ;) 8)

For what it's worth, I don't think there's a better resource out there for help with the Honda twins than the "Other Bikes" section of these forums.  Not saying I'm against a new, dedicated twin site, though.  I'd love to see one!

I would tend to agree myself! I just feel bothersome with my teenie tiny twins with all these big boys around here ;) Although, because of this forum I feel I have a better working knowledge of my 750 than my 350's. I just thought that I could try to facilitate a place where all the silly questions in regards to 350's could be a main section where it was less 'off subject'. I suppose if I end up hearing that there might be some support I will give a go at least.

I have to tell you all that I really don't see that anyone would (or should) have a problem with the 350 twin questions on the "Other Bikes" forum. I mean, that's what it's for. I do, however, understand the feeling behind what you are saying too. You just need to do whatever you feel you need to do. ;) Hope it works for you, which ever way you go. :)

It was this forum that helped with my CL 350 build. Now I know a thing or 2 as well ;D
I don't feel pestered when I see a twin question.

Here's the wife on hers this past weekend in Kamploops ;D   She kept up with the boys all weekend!

Mike,

I found this forum invaluable in restoring my CB350 twin. I searched all over the internet, and while I did find a couple other forums dedicated to Honda twins, none were nearly as good as this one.

I would discourage you from starting a new forum, though. Here's why:

Part of the reason that we find so much help at SOHC4 for our twins, despite the fact this forum is not dedicated to twins, is that so many owners of single cam fours "graduated" to them after learning to ride on twins. As a result, this forum is full of guys who may ride SOHC4s now, but also have deep knowledge of the twins. Many of them (like me) still ride both fours and twins.

If you start your own site, dedicated to twins alone, it may not be frequented by as many helpful folks, since it will draw only twin owners. It is unlikely that you will get much of a contingent of former twin owners, like this site has.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW, I never got the sense while I was restoring my CB350 that anyone around here was annoyed by my twin questions.  I sure hope they weren't, 'cuz I just tonight started a CL450 restoration!  I'll be back . . . with more twin questions!

I would say go ahead and do it. BUT, don't hold it to just the 350's, let the 400's and 450's in there as well. You'd be open to a larger audience (and have more participation) if you opened it up to the whole Honda Twin crowd. I mean, the engine from the 2007 Nighthawk and Rebel 250's are basically the same engine slightly modified. (The headlight bucket on the Nighthawk is actually the very same part number as on my wife's 78 CB400T II.)

If you do it, let me know. I'll be a registered user.

And the 360's, even though they are not as common or popular. ;)

I'm willing to help, though I don't own any honda twins.

I can host a forum no problem. Want me to buy a domain and set up the pointing?

hondatwins.com is available, and my hosting can handle the traffic without issue.
No.

I've just bought hondatwins.com and started domain pointing, etc, and host space.
What do you guys think about using the sohc site as a template for it?

It's mikedialects idea, so I'll make him global moderator or whatever. Let him decide who else can be moderator. I'm just setting up the website and hosting. Not running the show.

You guys have used the term "350 twins". Does that mean I can talk about and ask questions regarding mine? It's one of those that never get any attention or website traffic....An A7 Avenger.

Hey it meets most of the critera  ;D

Well, the domain name is hondatwins, but there's no reason not to have subforums for kawi twins, suzi twins, even brit twins.
I'll set em up, and if certain forums get no traffic, then those will go to the 'other bikes' section.

That sounds AWESOME. I was worried about two things- traffic & piggy backing on this site as if I had a good idea first! haha

If neither of those are an issue I would love to dedicate some time to it. I looked into the new bulletin they're using http://www.simplemachines.org/ and it doesn't look too bad. I don't want to steal ideas and the LARGE amount of effort that has gone into making this community run- aka not step on toes. I'll contact you via PM in a minute.

I really wouldn't mind it being a 'sister' site to sohc4.com.
Just imagine it as a more in-depth "other bikes" forum that already exists on this site.

Not trying to rain on a parade here, but there are a lot of very wise men on this sohc4 forum that just might never go in to your new one, thus you won't get their wisdom ??? Are you going to post questions in both?

Lets have a show of hands of people here who have a twin and realy know their sh*t?

I am not one of them ::)

I would be interested in helping if I can.

Had planned on starting one for the twins......in connection with my website, but know nothing about starting/hosting a forum. So the plans just kind of fell thru.

Let me know guys if there is anything I can help with.

Later,
Greg
