Speedo gear drive on dual disk conversion
« on: July 06, 2007, 01:05:06 PM »
I need a little advice regarding the placement of the speedo gear drive in my dual front disk conversion.  The speedo drive has been mentioned in previous dual disk conversion threads, but I am unclear on these specifics.

I am currently converting my 1977 750K (K7) with spoke wheels to a dual disk set-up using the forks and calipers from a 1978 750F and Comstar wheels.  The front wheel is a Comstar from a 1979 750L (origninally single disk, but I will add another rotor disk).  My question is, the 750K K7 has the speedo gear drive on the right hand side of the wheel but the 750L and the 750F have the speedo drive on the left - can I still use the K7 gear by turning it upside down and mounting it on the left side?  Or, can I easily arrange the Comstar wheel internals to use the gear on the right side?  Or, should I just spring for the $10 on e-Bay and get a left side gear drive?

Help and advice is greatly appreciated.
