Vibration From Rear-End At 70 MPH?
« on: July 04, 2005, 10:11:30 PM »
Hello everyone,

A little while back, I mentioned the '75 CB400F I've been fixing up, and this past weekend, I finally had the opportunity to take it out to an extended spin!

The only issue I had at all on the trip was a vibration originating from the rear-end at 70mph+...looking down, the rear tire/wheel seemed to almost "hop" or vibrate up and down along the pavement at a high rate of speed...as if there were tons of little bumps on the highway...

What would cause this?
Anyway to fix it?

Thanks.

Wheel/ tire balance,
worn shocks,
Tire not seated properly on rim,
or all the above.

Also be sure to check swing arm bushings.I just got my bike going...(well,almost!) and as soon as I get to hiway speed,I get a bit of wobble back there. I put it on centerstand and checked for play. There it was bigger than #$%*. The swingarm is loose at the shaft.I will be shopping for new bushings later this week.

A severe tight spot in the chain could also cause problems.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.
