"I must be a complete Idiot" type of carb question
« on: July 03, 2005, 04:08:37 PM »
CB750K8

As in earlier posts I have mentioned that I overhauled my carbs. I am now atempting to check/adjust my float level and have come upon another problem. The Clymer manual, under "cb750 k7/8, f2/3" says that I am supposed to:
"Measure the float hight (figure 24). It should be between 0.55-.059 in. (14-15 mm). If adjustment is necessary, bend the float arm with a small screw driver." page 130

Now "figure 24" isnt even a picture of my carbs. Its of an earlier model. However by the picture I gather that i am to measure from the lowest part of the floats (mine are not round) to the bottom of the carb body with the valve in the closed position. But since my floats are not round I was wondering if I measure from the end of the float closest to the pivit point or at the end of the float. My floats are flat on the bottom and this will make a great deal of difference in measurment. ???

Is it best to check this with the carbs upside down or to gently push up on the floats? ???

So much of the information for MY model of carbs in the Clymer is shown with pictures and/or information of different model carbs I was wondering if the float hight measurements that they gave are the correct measurments for correct for MY carbs. 14-15mm ???

Sorry for the essay :-[

Since I've sort of lead you astray earlier, I hesitate to offer much advice, but generally, the float height, at least on earlier carbs, is measured with the tab just barely touching the float valve spring, light enough so it does not compress the spring. As for the manual you are using, is the attachment below any different from the info you are looking at? It's from, supposedly, a K8/F3 Honda Shop manual.

The Cb750 Honda SHop manual is available from www.helminc.com.  It come with all the supplements for the later models.  However, the website is lacking for coverage of the older manuals.  But, if you call them, they can sell what you need.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

This seems to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship... ;-)

Terry my friend, I was going to put the blame on the post for you not receiving the ball, but you know, I'm feeling very "attached" to it, you know it's a man thing...  What else can I offer in place of it?

Hey Raul, don't tell me that you're gonna stiff me on that "knacker" are you? Geez mate, I won it fair and square, and I've been walking around for a month with a house-brick hanging offa my scrotum to stretch it to accommodate the third gonad, and to top it off I had a zipper surgically implanted to make it easier to insert? Great. Oh well, at least I'll have somewhere to keep my spare change when I go swimming, ha ha! ;D

Now what is it I can help you with, Mr Indian-Knacker-Giver? Oh yeah, I take it you'd like a copy of the CD? (which also has factory parts manuals and all sorts of interesting stuff on it) Well I'll expect something way special in return mate, and as much as I love those Spanish magazines, can you send me something in English? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;)

Terry, is the disc you have searchable, have a table of contents/ chapters, etc or is it like the manual posted here i.e. one long document?  If it's set up more user friendly what are the chances that you could upload it to my ftp site?  I figure that would save post and I could set up access for anyone that wanted to download it.  Just an idea.
Thanks
James

Hey James, looking at your avatar, you don't need a manual as much as you need glasses mate, there's no damn engine in that bike! The manual is just one long document, (well several actually) but I don't have a problem navigating around it? Cheers, Terry. ;D
