Dripping SOHC4 carbs
« on: July 09, 2007, 01:53:56 PM »
Here is something to look for if your float levels are set right and you can't stop the carbs from dripping from the overflow tubes.

The brass tube is cracked lengthwise down the side and gas seeps through the crack no matter where the float level is set. I am going to try soldering this one up and i'll update if sucessful.

youch, that is one thing I never looked for when my #4 carb was dripping, it turned out to be a float issue. You cleaned them up good!

here is a quick and very cheap fix for small cracks in metal floats as well as overflow pipes.  get some fingernail polish(your choice of colors or clear) and give the offending spot a couple of coats.  let it cure and voila! it works.  this has been a standard practice in the repair of small engine carburators for years.  whenever cleanout plugs are reinstalled they are sealed with the fingernail polish.  it will last indefinitely.
