Sweep Your Corner
« on: July 03, 2005, 09:47:52 PM »
I live on a Island. It is a 20 min thrill ride with all the twistys and straights you could Imagine. And you always arrive back at home without driving the same road!

I got tired of all the great corners having sand and gravel on them and went out today in my truck with a push broom and swept all the gravel off of most of the corners on the Island road today.  It took hours. I  got a lot of funny looks from  people in their cars, but one lady slowed and said she had come by me sweeping earlier dropping her son off and he had asked her to say thank you. He was also a rider and  appreciated my effort. I mentioned to her that perhaps she could get her son to adopt a corner and keep it clean for every one.  She smiled and said she would mention it to him.

If every one swept  just one corner, we would all be in better shape :D

You can take credit for a new invention; whisk brooms screwed into knee pucks.

Good Idea.

I'll take the M25!  This is basically a 125 mile righthander if you're going clockwise...

Any offers for Beltway?

Here in the states (also known as the colonies, evil Satan, etc.) we have a program named "Adopt a Highway".  Basically, local establishments will 'adopt' a mile or so of a particular highway within close proximity of said establishment.  Once adopted, the adoptee will clean any refuse that inevitably collects along the roadside.  They are rewarded with a nice sign such as, "Highway Adopted by Zeke's Tavern and Fresh Bait" posted along that particular mile marker. I think that Gabriola Island could institute a "Sweep a Corner" program and include signs recognizing the sweepers.

Bobby-
What a lot of people don't know is that a company can just pay money for that sign- state sponsored advertising. I don't think I've ever seen anyone but prisoners picking up the side of a road.

In Michigan, they usually only have two pickup days: once in the spring and once in the fall. Other than that, they aren't obligated to lift a finger.
