AYFK!? CB500 abortion?
« on: July 03, 2007, 05:56:21 PM »
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Honda-CB-500-Starts-Balanced-Blueprinted-HOTTTT_W0QQitemZ330143556448QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330143556448

Bluprinted? Balanced? Looks like the top has never been off. Might account for that leaking base gasket, head gasket and shifter seal, as well as the busted and bent cooling fins.

Looks like someone tried to take the head off by prying with a pry bar between the fins!

Maybe I'm wrong, but it just doesn't seem kosher, you know? How many times have we seen bikes on ebay that were supposedly something that they weren't? Do you really think that his seller is on the up and up? Now, I CAN imagine a built motor in a less than glamorous vehicle of any kind and make it a sleeper. But, would a person go to the trouble to balance & blueprint a motor and NOT do anything else? That's what I'm wondering. Any ideas or input? BTW, nice to see you. Take care. ;)

                                         Later on, Bill :) ;)

Also: I'd like to say that it is a shame that the owner is deceased. THAT is too bad. :-\

You are right, Bill. Trouble is there are far too many novices out there who want to believe what they read in these auctions. They are easy prey for this kind of thing.

If it was just a little closer, like my side of the darned lake I would go make a rescue and post it on the website while I pick on it and make humour of it while I bring it back to how it should be.

My first dorm roommate back at UT ran a V8 cobra engine in his early 90s (post-5.0) V6 mustang body.  Called it the "sleeper".  ;D

His exhaust would set off the car alarms in the parking garage when he revv'd it up :)

Though i don't understand why someone would want to pretend to have a cb350 with a cb500 engine in it.  Seems kinda pointless to me  ???

The q&a had me rolling:

Q:    Never heard the phrase "balanced & blueprinted". What does that mean? Also----how's the rubber? Thanks, Paul   Jul-05-07
A:    It means taken apart and put together to exacting stadards. Rubber is bad, have a set of knobbys for it, though. Thanks for looking.

Who wouldn't want to moto a CB350/500? Maybe he has some CR forks and a long swingarm to go with the knobbys!

Just some guy tossing out garbage bait to see what may take it. With the insane collector mentality hitting almost everything one can imagine, I'm not surprised that people are asking ridiculous amounts for junk. As the guy selling pencils for a million dollars apiece said, "I only have to sell one."

Also feeding this is when watches the prices of all things rising each time they are checked on. A bit of panic mentality creeps in with the - "better get it now at this price, before it goes up again or won't be found for a long time" mindset. And the person who just made a panic buy has now set the benchmark higher for the next poor sap trying to locate one of the whatevers.
