Just over 120mph in 1980 or 81. I had a 1978 CB750K I held it wide open for 9 miles and my buddy still beat me to town. (he had a KZ900)

but just last week I cranked it up to 150+ on my 2007 ZX14

Me and Spanner rode the Friday night of Mid-Ohio this year, after I got my bike running, and I got her up to 120 mph. This wasn't letting her rev up either. I was shifting at about 5k and was was already in 5th when I decided to open her up to see how the Prog. springs and new shocks felt at speed. Don't remember the rpm's, but it wasn't redlined since I didn't go rev crazy just cruising on the interstate.

Man, I've done exactly that, on the same bike. Loved that machine while she was still alive.

Out of curiosity, how did it die?

Bolt on #2 conn rod FELL OUT. Under HARD throttle. I was going about 70 when the rear wheel locked up on me... NOT cool!. Any way, her guts weren't too badly damadged. Needs a new conn rod, and crankshaft. Everything else escaped unscathed. But, try to find those parts... HA! Easier to find a sandcast in #1 condition!

Last summer on my 78 CB550k, following a 79 KZ650, a Triumph Speed Triple (or something like that) and a Suzuki Bandit.  We came out of some twisties to hit a straight away, I looked down after a minute or so and noticed I was doing 110mph .  I think RMP's were somewhere over redline.......sh** I don't know.  I eased off the throttle a bit and took her easy.  The others got smaller and smaller in the distance

So far I've only pushed the old 650 up to 80mph but my speedo tops out at that so might have to find another genuine Police speedo that goes to say 120mph to know for sure what speed I'm really getting.
I know it feels really good at 70mph on the Motorway but crosswinds here are horrible and I usually end up backing off.
My old T350 Suzuki was good for 110mph any day you wanted and as I was young and bulletproof I did that speed most days.

What kind of helmet do you wear? I have a full-face helmet and I don't think 110 is that much worse than 75 or 80.

Full faced.  I don't know if was my body position or it was windy that day.  I could feel the chin strap digging deep and had to reposition the helmet a few times.

I had my 1977 CB750F up to 110 at about 8000, a couple of weeks ago couldn't really tellRPMs, just guessing...eyes were watering so I backed off.  Had it up to 130 years ago racing my wife!

My speedo needle was past the 150 mph mark. I don't know what the actual speed was, but it was very hard to hold on to !!      And this is no bull sh$t !!

CB 750s 836RC w/315 cam and lots of goodies,135-140mph,@9000rpm,CB 590 Yoshi kitted race bike,Road A back straight,130-135mph,@12,000-13,000rpm,RC51,150+ mph,in 5th,wasn't enough road for 6th,Built CB1100F Yoshima drag bike 1123cc ,Kaz's cams ,33 smoothbores,Basani pipe,buried the needle @150mph and was still pulling strong,my buddy Deano Swims CB 1100F @ Road A would spin the tire in 4th gear coming down the hill after the bridge,and wheelie @ the same time,built 1100's were strong motors!Turbo CBX too busy trying to handle it 150mph was the last I saw,owner claimed 180mph.RC51 achieves top speed quicker and easier than most of them,one tooth less up front ,two more in rear,now it picks up f/end in second w/gas only!I think I need to go ride something,I ride lots faster than I type!,Bill

got a neighbors 88ci ultra classic up to 105 this afternoon and it was struggling. no wonder with over 800 pounds of fairing and bags and cd players aboard

According to  the speedo
105 on a CB550 in indiana
120 on the FZR600 on the 5 in Washington.
Not sure about RPMs

Hey mate, I've got a couple of CB750 Police speedo's here, they go up to 180 Kmh. Reminds me of when I was 18 (in 1978) I was drag racing a HR Holden, and once I saw him off, I kept going until I got pulled over by a bike cop. He booked me for "speed in excess of 180 Kmh in a 60 Kmh zone". (112 Mph in a 35 Mph zone)

I actually thought I was going much faster than that, (my speedo was showing 215 Kmh or 134 Mph) so I didn't say anything, but I always wondered until I bought a cop speedo on EBay, it only reads up to 180! Let me know if you want it, $50.00 (AUD) or a litre of Jack Daniels, plus postage should cover it. Cheers, Terry.

Ooh, and I better add my latest bike, 2007 Triumph Rocket 3, I'm still breaking it in, but I saw 140 Mph @ 5500 RPM. Not a SOHC4 I know, it's only got 3 cylinders, but at 2300 CC's there's a tad more than a CB750 engine's total capacity in each cylinder.......

Sorry Hushy, I haven't been back here for a couple of weeks, no, it's not that horrible thing that fits into your headlight bucket, it's the "slightly larger" one, I'll take a pic tomorrow for you, ok?
