My F-2 970cc RC hotrod bike was the real deal, and it would pull both needles past the numbers with ridiculous ease. I had PZ2 roadracing tires and new sprocket compliments of my racing pals. I once ran it flat out on a long, slight downhill section of freeway north of Seattle. The tach needle kept rising, got past 12K, and I got nervous about floating a valve. The speedo needle was in spot where 165 would be if the numbers went that high. I believe this number to be reasonably accurate, as I later verified the speedo calibration at 140 on the dragstrip.

I had a F-2 stocker that clocked a best 13.07 @101.57.

My radical street SOHC turbo (736cc, stock displacement) clocked a best of 142.73 mph at Spokane Raceway during a Dragbike USA race.

1978 CB750K 4-1 pipe did around 125-130 (speedo bounces) 8500-9000 once on a downhill between Burien and Seattle, and several times when I worked at Johns Island Executive Airport in South Carolina. (runway inspection! ;) :D ;D) the scary part is the wobbles I'd get slowing down I found that at certain speeds it wobbles a little and if you keep accelerating they stop, until you come back to that speed slowing down. I am doing carbs, swingarm all the bearings, bushing, spokes and suspension I want to see the speedo peg out. Some day I want to go 200mph(at the salt flats).

OK I have been runnin the #$%* out of my 76 cb550 ss.....

2nd gear is good for about 70mph at 10500 rpm
3rd gear is good for about 85mph at  95000 rpm (ish)
4th gear is good for about 95-or so at 8700-9000rpm and that is all there is you 5 and it will not maintain and not even consider going faster.

These numbers are right off the gauges so take it for what there worth.
This bike is bone stock exec pt a differant st of carbs, so to all you 550 owners is this about right? good, bad?
let me know.

That run was 10.00 @142.73, that was a semifinal pass, ran 10.10 @ 139.10 in the final to win Comp Eliminator. Tire was flat worn out. That motor never went into the 9's... :(  Since the 10.00 was a National record and required tear down for displacement verification, so I did and found 2 broken retainers, with the valves ready to fall in!
That motor had STOCK CAST PISTONS AND 30+PSI BOOST. And 5 base gaskets to get the CR down, it was 6.8:1. I ran the numbers on a compression calculator program... SCARY. So I ran 118 octane ERC gas and took a couple degrees timing out.
I was running the F/F Rayjay, way too much turbo lag using this with only 736cc. A B-25 would have been a better choice. No boost until top of 2nd gear, no compression for torque, so with the stock tranny ratios, gearing up for higher MPH would leave you on your face at the line. I'd wing the he!! out of this thing to get it moving - how high? - the tach needle wasn't in the numbered area during ANY launch on raceday...

These motors have lots of studs, it makes me wonder how much cylinder pressure (boost) I COULD get away with, probably lots more with the small motor... but the main bearing wear marks on my Falicone Supercrank told me that the SOHC cases flex under too much load.  :(
Now lets see, an NHRA blown alcohol car can run static 12.2:1 compression and 60 psi with the screw blower... I'm thinkin' my poor little 750 would look like a mushroom cloud, it'd be a race to see whether it spit the rods out before running over the crank... :o :o :o :o :o :o

The last steel rod I threw out was shaped like a cute little 'S'. Well, all 4 sorta looked like that. Those little devils sure can chop their way through aluminum cases without much trouble.  :o
Up to THAT point it was quite a wonderful ride...
I think next time I'd make a Kevlar Codpiece. For the motor. Maybe an extra for the rider... ::)

The motor that ran 10.00...

 what did it have for
Rods, Cam, Valvesprings,studs,  Head ?

I would gladly destroy a stock motor, to go that fast a few times.. ;D

Was it the same motor you had when we met at Seattle?, it was not near that quick then.

Frank, if I weren't so lazy (and married) I'd do it again too.
The 10.00 motor #1 performance gain came from putting on a holley red fuel pump and regulator, 3/8" fuel line, and adding several additional vent holes to the cap. Once the motor's fuel starvation issues were solved, it ran pretty well so I turned up the boost.
#2 ET gain was the air shifter. I fought having one for a long time, this bike was supposed to be street bike, not a dragster... It was stupid to ever think I could shift like it can. Saves mucho wear and tear as well. Air it up and go.
I had burned up a new set of Arias 1000 pistons - that's how I figured out I had a fuel issue - and didn't have another big kit. But I did have several salvage yard stockers worth of parts.
SO...
I used what appeared to be the best of that stock stuff and plastigaged a bottom end together. Stock everything except an undercut tranny and HD clutch springs. Big cylinder studs. Stock pistons and pins. (The pins bent .005" after those passes :o) Special ground down F-2 dowl & O ring for oil passage, and 5 base gaskets. Pistons sat in the hole about .125". Accutronix .043" copper head gasket. K head with good valve job and Manley SS exhaust valves. HD springs with aluminum retainers (that damn near broke in half)... F-2 broken band cam 108 lobe centers. Mallory sprint mag. ERC fuel.
Ran it all spring like this, rode it a around a little but the lack of torque on a 6.8:1 motor was bad. Drags were lots more fun, I ran from 1psi to 15psi boost just playing around, didn't beat it up at all. No high revs, easy low 11 second laps.
I never ran the 30 psi wastegate spring & jets until Q1 in Spokane that year, had NO idea it would run that much quicker with the extra boost!

73 cb350f.  Coming back to Duluth on the North Shore of Lake Superior hit 106 pretty sure my RPM's were right around 9000 but i didnt really look much.  Usually the bike will barley hit 100 but on this day we were trying to beat a storm and the wind coming off that storm was pushing me.  Pretty nuts for an 18 year old on a thirty year old bike

just last weekend i was riding the 718cc CB550 with a couple SV650s and VTR1000. i don't have gauges, but they said at one point they were doing 105MPH when i blew past them. i thought we were cruising at 85 or so because of the ease of which i passed them. i wasn't hitting the rev limiter (set at 10,500 RPM), but i'd guess i was right around peak power, which is 9,700 RPM.

i like the new fairing.  ;D

The cam chain was stock but was afterwards found to have many 'sticky' links.
The ports in that head were stock, just the seats were true and correct.
LOTS OF BOOST gave it the flow needed for the 165 horsepower (calculated).

The flow bench shows some rather substantial gains can be had with these heads, but they don't really flow much better with lifts over about .380", the cfm gains are very small. Carefully matching the seat to the throat diameter is a big deal and IMO can be more important than port shape. I saw a nicely ported head pick up 8cfm flow with just this... with an increase of port velocity. A true win -win!
The valve and port cross sectional area is too small to get the really BIG numbers - but I will be shooting for a MEASURED 200+ HP with my next project. That 165 HP estimate was based on calculations we found in Hot Rod magazine, but the next time I do this I want a Certified Dyno print out for my troubles...

The '410' black (F-2 big valve) heads had the cam with a cast raised 'broken band' around one end, that's the 108 degree lobe center cam with 10 degrees overlap. Slightly hotter than the 78 K. I think I read the K0 had the best of them all. I had the RC 240 regrind in one motor, it was really a great ride.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to derail this thread, I love hearing these stories about the daring men on thier flying machines!

I did get my 1966 80cc Suzuki "Hillbilly" up to 55 mph without seizing... ;D

Yeah, they are black motors, think I like the cams more than the valve problrems.. :D

So do you ever think of re-creating the 10.00 motor?

Would you if you had the support of the forum and or a magazine? Like we would supply a lot of the parts (if you got the turbo end of it) I think a few mags would maybe be interested if it got in the high 9s. I realize it will have a short like but hey, it would sure get noticed.. and make good press..

I'd love to be able to say I ran 9.99 with a 736cc SOHC, too bad nobody but us guys here care about that. It could easily be done with what I know NOW. ;D
BUT most likely a big bore/stroker/turbo/200+ hp/1120cc Dyno Monster will be my next goal since I have the stuff already. And I still need to finish my 1200cc KZ. THAT got put on hold because of our jet F/C fiasco...
And now it's hunting season so it's ALL on hold. ;)

I had my 1980 Goldwing up to almost 6 grand on the tach in high gear, didn't have a working speedo at the time so maybe around 110mph or so.  The wing still had more in it too.

140+ on "Range Road" on Fort Campbell Kentucky on the back 40-

130+ (at least) in Missouri at about 1 in the morning on a freshly paved road during the early Fall. Thought for sure that I was going to get abducted by aliens, stars were bright, the woods were dark, and I was the only living soul around, and my ZX-7 was running perfect. Crest a hill, and all of a sudden find myself in some tiny town that was fast asleep. Start motorbraking hard, but a Statie was sitting off to the right. Got pulled over, he sees that I am US Military, and gives me a warning. Alabama (another story) and Missouri cops are Ok in my book!

Panama City, Florida- 100 plus on a wet road, yikes!

Highway 154, California, 120+ but crashed on the next turn after slowing, not a friggen scratch! (besides scunned bodywork, and a bent shifter).

Now you know why I ride 70's bikes now...........................
