Well, there might have been a little poetic license there Scott. Have you got any pics of your Mini Bike? I'd love to see them! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Sadly, no pictures of the mini bike survived the crash and burn that immediately followed the LSR record attempt for my class. The only pic I have is from an earlier racer, which failed to beat the standing record down Bauer Hill. :(

Dohc, how old are you?  17?

I wouldn't ask you to care if someone you don't know dies.
Evidence of your ignorance of the camaraderie of the members on this forum. Many of us whom have never met each other, share a close bond and tight friendship, despite our distance. Bound together by a passion is among the features of motorcyclists. Any time a member dies while riding, their loss is deeply felt by all of us. Too often its at the hands of a careless driver. In your case, given your responses, I suspect should it happen to you, it may be at your own doing. Tragic loss for those who know you perhaps, but for those of us whom you show disdain, I suspect we may not miss you or your acerbic attitude.

Your pompous rant is based on assumption.

Maybe I just can't see them, but did he delete most of his posts? Not only in this thread, but others as well? Pretty childish if you ask me.

In keeping with the spirit of this thread: 141 mph on a buddy's 2012 Ninja 650, and an indicated 110 on my '76 CB550 (no idea on rpm's on either bike).

I always wonder where folks ride bikes to this claimed speed. Certainly, public roads in the US don't provide good environments, and even some dolt whacks a throttle wide open on a public road and attains these speeds, would we really empathize with their passing as a result of absolutely stupid and reckless riding? I would not.

Well considering that most of us don't own private roads or have access to racetracks, I think the obvious answer is that yes, we do our "speed tests" on public roads. I do my "testing" on a particular road that while public (i.e., I don't own it, and I can't close it off to the public) is rarely used, apart from one or two farmers to access their properties, the odd stray bull, and a few Kangaroos.

It's only a short road, (hence my early claims of 120 MPH @ 12000 RPM in third gear on my worked CB750, the road wasn't long enough to change into fourth before I had to slow down for the "T" intersection at the end of the road) so I do a lap of the road at legal speeds first before I "give it the berries" to make sure I'm not going to cause any harm.

I've used this road to test all of my bikes in recent years, without incident. It's not too hard to find a "Public Road" where the risks of hurting myself or anyone else can be minimised to the point where it's not a major issue, although of course, the faster you go, the greater the risk, but that's a gamble I'm prepared to occasionally take.

If people need to make a decision whether or not to express sympathy for someone, based purely on the circumstances of the deceased's demise, then they need to take a good hard look at themselves, empathy is an emotion, not a decision. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Having no rear suspension and a springer front end doesn't contribute to smooth traveling at high speeds, so I've limited myself to about 95 mph until this past summer.  I topped 100 mph three times between Wheeler, TX and Canadian, TX in the Texas panhandle while on my way to Sturgis, SD.  There was a stretch of highway there with some pristine asphalt, the likes of which I've never seen before...and having just replaced the springer with a hydraulic front end it was the perfect conditions to go for it.

This little thrill caused me to run out of gas just five miles shy of Perryton, TX.

I took this photo while waiting on my buddy to come back with a syphon hose.  All's well that ends well.

No tach so I don't know the rpm.

I always confess my position on whether I have empathy for someones demise based upon their stupidity or terrible choices is hard-hearted, Terry. But it goes to self-responsibilty. Do stupid things willingly, and I will have nothing for you. I take no pleasure in peoples tragedies, but I walk on with some semblance that God (or whomever/whatever you believe in) has done His work. I don't wish ill upon anyone, but I also see the gene pool empty itself by the actions of fools.
You have no sympathy for anyone that dies in a crash if they die trying to achieve high speeds? That's ridiculous.

Every post I've ever seen from you seems to come from an ivory tower.

I watched an interesting documentary a couple of nights ago about Sid Vicious, from the Sex Pistols. All I knew about Sid was that he murdered his girlfriend then killed himself in 1979. No sympathy required, as far as I was concerned.

This documentary (episode 1 of "The Last 24" series 1) made me change my mind a bit. Sid was 21, a heroin addict, (the son of a heroin addicted mother) and went on a drug binge with his girlfriend Nancy, also an addict. He woke up one day and found his girlfriend dead, and even the police who interviewed him couldn't decide if he was guilty or not, their hotel room was open and drug dealers had access in and out, and one of the detectives suspected that a dealer had stabbed Nancy when she caught him robbing them.

Sid was sent to Rikers Island prison, where he was bashed and raped by other inmates, on several occasions. After 55 days he was released on bail, based on the concern that he might in fact, be innocent. He was absolutely paranoid of being convicted though, and being sent back to Rikers. He asked his mother to score him some heroin, and within 24 hours he was dead from an overdose.

His mother died of an overdose in 1996, but before she did, she admitted that she'd intentionally given Sid an overdose to kill him, so he wouldn't have to go back to Rikers. I couldn't help but feel sorry for both of them. Cheers, Terry. ;D
