Any one familiar with the 1st gen V45 Magna?
« on: July 15, 2007, 08:54:50 AM »
Having fuel system problems with a 82 V45 Magna.  It appears like the front 2 cyls are getting way overfueled.  Both front pipes are running cold and smokes to high heaven when running.  Does not appear to be coolant smoke but way overrich smoke and sure smells like it too.  Both cyls have spark.  I know the previous owner had been into the carbs before (lucky me) and don't know if he may have interchanged parts between carbs.  I found 2 torn diaphrams when I went into them and attempted repair with liquid electrical tape.  I know, I know, but when you're on a budget.  These repairs I think have held but wont know for sure until I get running on all 4 cyls.  I have gone and set float height per Clymer specs and thoroughly cleaned carbs and bench synched.  Is it possible the fuel pump is somehow pushing fuel past the float needles or have I overlooked something else?  I don't understand yet how this pump system is supposed to work.  Everything I've seen in cars has a bypass or regulator in the system to prevent overfueling.  If anyone is familiar with these bikes or has a contact or website in mind, please advise.  This will be a good bike once all 4 jugs are cooking like they are supposed to.  Thanks in advance for any input.
