Right you are Joe!! Thats exactly how I feel about my 750. Its really not a hi-way bike .......Its more of a town bike. Even if you have a totally stock 750 (add fairing & bags).....it still ain't quite there. It makes a bad ass little street ride though.

I think I am leaning towards getting a Monster rather than the Paul Smart (this bike in black)
When I was sitting on both at the dealer the Monster was much more comftable, and almost had a cruiser riding position. Allot less agressive then the paul smart.I think if I am gonna get this bike as a daily rider/long trip taker I might be better off with the monster, and keep the CB450 for "acting the fool" duty  ;D

That's odd. I find my 750 to be much better at 65-90 on the freeway than lugging around town.
No.

From having both a CB750 and a CB450, I can def. say the CB750 was "decent" on the tollway. Not something I would want to take on a 2 hour cruise, but it was do-able. The CB450 def. seems way too small to take the abuse that a highway/tollway would give out..

I'm with mlinder. It's been a l-o-n-g time, but I've taken my 750 from Mich. to the tip of Long Island, N.Y. and back as well as the Smokeys and back. The bike handles those distances and speeds better than I did. ;D
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I used to do 600-800 mile weekends on my r75/5. I'd have absolutely no problem doing the same on my CB other than it has clubmans on it, but I'd still probably be ok.
The cb750 is smooth as all get out at 85mph, just sings along.
You guys are nuts. What makes a bike 'highway capable' to you?
No.

You guys are missing something.
I said my CB750 was more than capable of going on the tollway, and my CB450 is not.
I sold the CB750 so now all I am left with is the CB450, thus my need/want for another bike..

The CB450 is a much smaller(and lower) bike that my 750, and def. will not handle as well as the 750 did at tollway speeds..

Wasn't directed at you, ProTeal. Was directed at the other peopel saying they don't use their 750 for highway travel.
No.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?

From having both a CB750 and a CB450, I can def. say the CB750 was "decent" on the tollway. Not something I would want to take on a 2 hour cruise, but it was do-able. The CB450 def. seems way too small to take the abuse that a highway/tollway would give out..

I think that was what confused everyone Proty. I haven't done it for awhile, but I rode my CB750K1 to Bathurst from Melbourne and back (around 1200 mile round trips) over a weekend, and of course the mighty CB750 loved these sort of trips.

Now back to Ducati's, I reckon you're on the money with a Monster, if I was gonna buy another Duke, this one would be my choice, the magnificent 130 BHP S4R Testastretta, truly sex on wheels............ Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well,
I am going to sign papers tomorrow on a brand new 2007 Ducati Monster S2R1000.
The S4R wasn't all that much more $$, I just don't need a 130BHP bike, and I couldn't get past the nasty radiator...

Pics to come  ;D

You've all raised an interesting question for me, as I have been looking at something for longer trips.  What's your other motorcycle(s)?  The one you have for daily riders or longer trips or both...

I don't have another one yet, but I'm thinking that something along the lines of '82 or '83 CBX with the fairing and bags.

I like to ride my 750 in town, but it definitely enjoys running in the open road.  It seems to like to cruise at 70 to 80 with no problems.

I thought 82 was the last year of the CBX?

Why don't you start a separate thread for this?

sorry, you're right... didn't mean to jack the thread.  I'll take it to another one.  And, I stand corrected, CBX was done in '82.

Not a problem for me, but I could see this turning into something BIG and generating a lot of reponses.    ;)

I am def. keeping both bikes.
I have a few things to do to the CB450 to get it riding safe again, and then it is basically done. Over the winter I am gonna tear it apart to re-paint, and do a few other little things..
