Oh, I am excited. I am also a little nervous. I had a dream that I dropped the engine while installing it back into the frame.

Then do the old trick of putting the frame over the engine while the engine is tipped up on it's side- this way, you can't drop it!

What kind of paint is that on the crankcase? Looks like a decent match to the factory paint; maybe just a bit too much gloss.

Bottom end studs can be a bit of a pain in butt as you need to position the lower case precisely when joining the halves. It is very easy to gouge a main bearing unless you are careful. You really need a second set of hands which I had in my oldest son. He kept an eye on the center shift fork too. The studs are great in you can increase the clamping pressure and not hurt the case threads.

Duplicolor Aluminum engine enamel. The gloss does temper over time too.

I had a bit idiot moment with the bottom end studs. I got both sets from Dynoman.net and after installing the top end studs I'm looking at the other set and then at the bottom case and there was head scratching there friends and neighbors. Only after seeing Sparty's pictures did I understand how these work and are attached to the TOP CASE! I'm glad I read this warning also, I'll make sure I have help when I mate the cases.

I should have sent a pic with #1 & #4 recesses really blended in to allow for very easy plug removal. Honestly....this cam cover and the others are totally bad ass. I wish I could polish one half as well.....Alister is the best no matter what you want. Original concours finish etc.... I'm lucky to call him a good friend.

Ok, how the heck does everyone get the cases to polish up like that.
i sand(800) i scotch bright(red and grey) and buff, and its like night and day compaired to the things I've see on this site.
do i need to bead blast first? is that the trick?
should i just get them done professionally?

Too many cruisers have chrome. Not many old bikes have nicely polished cases. Keeping the stuff bright will require some work, but it is good for the soul.
