Unpleasant surprise
« on: July 16, 2005, 02:58:25 AM »
Can you imagine how i felt when i got home from work this afternoon to find my pride and joy laying on its side with 15ft trail of oil along the gutter,
and small parts scattered around.
it seems some stupid woman trying to reverse park knocked my bike over then left it lying there while she went for a house inspection across the road.
so for 3 hours it lay there without anyone standing it up,
great aye?
the woman left without so much of a sorry note but i tracked her down after somebody had taken her rego.
so i went to the police station explained the situation and the cop looked up her details on the computer, then thoughtfully left them sitting on the table right in front of me while he had to get a form,
so after a few phone calls i got a hold of her phone number and can you believe she said she didnt realise she had hit it, even though someone had pointed out there was a bike under her front wheel.
said she thought it had always been like that!
#$%*!!!
anyway now shes come around to my way of thinking and will be sending a cheque as soon  as i can buy the parts.
my question is, the back tyre was absolutely soaked in oil, do you think i should get a new one?
does oil soak into rubber? or can i just scrub it clean?

Oil is a carcinogen. Expert rider that you are, as often as you check your air pressure yours hands may fall off in bloody stumps from cancer any day. And be sure to wear gloves when you change it!
You may want to add bills for counseling as this has obviously shaken you quite deeply. How else can we explain that you would even ask such a question?

Source of info? I would like to research this a bit more. Thanks.

link to material safety data sheets. seems that some poor laboratory animals had motor oil rubbed in their skin until it caused cancer. go figure. could probably rub sand on your skin long enough to cause cancer.

Sorry to hear about your bike.  As to oil being carcinogenic:  everything causes cancer in lab mice - air, water, food, sex.  A nurse once told me she thought researchers used a special strain of cancer-prone mice to test substances for cancer.  She may have been kidding though.  ;D

Is thier an agency that would be concerned about the oil spill?  If so they may want to know the location and the info of the resposible #$%*.

Uncle Ernie you crack me up.

Chrometank, I had a pool of oil under my rear tire once. I simply did not feel completely safe until it was replaced with a new tire. ;) I hope you get things worked out to your satisfaction!

pmpski, your good looks are obviously overshadowed by your intellect. You're the only one who got it...
I'll try to come up with some fake scientific data to convince the rest of you, but I was serious about the counseling!
