Basically I have a old CB500T that I just want to freshen up alittle. I was planning to use aircraft grade laquer (sp?) thinner, sand paper, scotch bright, and a rattle can clear coat to stop rust. Will the tank rust if I dont clear coat it?

Would that be the proper process of giving my tank a WWII fighter brushed aluminum look?

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't over looking something.

Thanks guys!

It will rust in about an hour if you don't clear coat it. Even if you do, it will start to rust under the clear. You could always lay a LOT of clear on it, and keep it very well waxed. Should slow it down a little.

THought about zinc plating it?

If u want the raw metal look, just have it ceramic coated and polished (like a set of headers), then take a scotch brite pad and some WD40 to it and dull it up.
Exile does this to almost every part they sell for that "raw" look...

I agree with proteal....that method works very well, is very durable, and above all, looks killer.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
