hi can anyone tell me where the bracket fits to for the spring?  i car,nt find anywhere for it to go? theworkshop manual has no pictures

I don't have a 400/4, but do have a 550 stripped down right now...looks similar...

That crescent shaped piece goes from the spring to the "L" shaped piece welded on the frame...

Here's a pic - stripped & on the bike...

That second shot is from the right side; here's one from the left side. The crescent bracket is being pulled onto the frame tab by the spring pressure, in turn caused by the angle of the spring which is attached to the right mainstand leg.

This is slightly off topic but, I have noticed several adds from Classic Bike stating 78 400F for sale.  I thought that they were only made 75, 76, and 77?

They're probably either selling a 400 twin and just mislabeled it as an "F", or it was an earlier model that wasn't titled/registered until '78.

yes mine was registered in 78 and its not a twin?

they sat in dealers showrooms long after they were built, people always refer to registration date not build date.

Isn't Classic Bike a Euro mag?  They sold a 400F into the 90s.
