Tach/lights, need identification please...
« on: July 17, 2007, 09:31:29 AM »
Can anybody identify this tach and light cluster? I've been scouring the net all morning and can't find it.

TIA

I believe that's off a Yamaha.  The idiot light cluster on my XS650 is a bit different--neutral light is on the bottom, but it's definitely Yamaha.

Found it.  Here you go--1979 Yamaha XS750 Special gauge cluster on ebay.  Perfect match:

WTF! Got the damn thing off of egay, labeled as CB750... I guess that's why I couldn't find it.

Will this work properly with the Honda tach cable and read proper revs???

ARGH.

Thanks so much for helping!!!!!

Honestly I don't know.  I think the cables are the same type but the tach drive gear might be a different ratio.  Can anyone chime in with a definitive answer?

If anything, some meters measure RPM--you could hook it up and see what it reads.

Everywhere I've looked for gauges says all late Japanese use the same rpm ratio (or whatever), so any one from other bikes should give an exact reading, unless all those retailers are wrong. Take a look at JC Whitney and Old Bike Barn for examples.
