Wow, what a close race. All the bikes look fantastic! I really want to thank everyone for the chance to participate in this contest and especially to Jugghead and SamCR750 for nominating the bike. It is such a great experience to ride one of these SOHC's to a bike night gathering and the bikes really are timeless.
Thanks again for the award and recognition, it really gets me motivated to start another one! Here are some more pics and a description of what was done for the record now that the voting is over.
Some details on my bike:
*I started with a 1978 CB750K (pic below) that was a decent bike to begin with and good running with 25,000 miles.
*I stripped the bike down to the frame and then coated it with as two part epoxy paint called POR-15 Hardnose Paint.
*I refinished the engine in Satin Aluminum 500 degree PJ1 engine paint.
*I rebuilt and refaced the instruments with the racing style SuperHawk faces.
*I used a 1975 GL1000 Goldwing complete front end to get the factory dual disk brakes, factory aluminum spoked rim and the beefier 37 mm forks and tapered steering stem bearings (which are brand new with new races).
*For the rear wheel I bought a 18"x3.5" D.I.D. aluminum rim and had it custom laced with custom Buchanan stainless steel spokes to the factory hub.
*The tires and tubes are brand new Kenda Cruiser Sport tires, 140 rear BTW.
*The chain is a brand new RK Gold "O" Ring 630 size chain riveted together so there is no weak master link.
*The shocks are brand new Progressive Suspension shock absorbers.
*The Exhaust pipes are the factory pipes with the ends cut off, all baffles gutted out and the ends rewelded on reversed for that sunken cone racing look and a wicked racing engine sound.
*The carbs have been totally rebuilt and a glass beaded finish along with screened velocity stacks also that give a racing look and wicked sound with screens for safety.
*The oil tank as been flushed, refinished and I built Aeroquip custom stainless braided oil supply lines with red Earl's clamps.
*The bike is painted Viper Red on the front fender, tank and seat assembly.
*The tank is a CR750 fiberglass replica from Team Hansen's. Just to be extra careful I used Hirsch's fiberglass tank sealer as overkill protection. The tank has the aluminum flip top cap from England that is very authentic and very cool. Also, I used a racing Pingel petcock to supply fuel to the carbs and securely shut off the fuel.
*The seat assembly is also from Team Hansen's and I had a auto restoration company here in Detroit make the custom seat cover to the specs of the factory racing bike, number, placement and size of pleats .. etc ......
*The fender is from a older Honda, (maybe a 450) all steel and reversed for the CR750 look.
*I fabricated the aluminum rear tail light assembly/license holder to work with the racing seat section.
*The decals are replica decals from a guy in England that makes them, and are VERY high quality.
*The clip-ons are two way adjustable with chrome bars and aluminum mounting brackets.
*The controls are factory and horn, high/low beam, starter and kill switch.
*The mirror is a convex 2" CRG custom mirror that works better than you might think and looks very subtle on the bike keeping the racing lines.
*The brake lines are new stainless braided lines, the throttle cables, clutch cable, levers are all brand new Motion Pro. The front master cylinder and both calipers have been totally rebuilt with all new internals.
*The kickstand is a brand new chrome unit with new spring.
*A manual analog VDO oil pressure gauge is mounted onto the engine.
* Other stuff I've forgotten ......
