Wow, what a close race. All the bikes look fantastic!  I really want to thank everyone for the chance to participate in this contest and especially to Jugghead and SamCR750 for nominating the bike.  It is such a great experience to ride one of these SOHC's to a bike night gathering and the bikes really are timeless.

Thanks again for the award and recognition, it really gets me motivated to start another one!  Here are some more pics and a description of what was done for the record now that the voting is over.

Some details on my bike:
*I started with a 1978 CB750K (pic below) that was a decent bike to begin with and good running with 25,000 miles.
*I stripped the bike down to the frame and then coated it with as two part epoxy paint called POR-15 Hardnose Paint.
*I refinished the engine in Satin Aluminum 500 degree PJ1 engine paint.
*I rebuilt and refaced the instruments with the racing style SuperHawk faces.
*I used a 1975 GL1000 Goldwing complete front end to get the factory dual disk brakes, factory aluminum spoked rim and the beefier 37 mm forks and tapered steering stem bearings (which are brand new with new races).
*For the rear wheel I bought a 18"x3.5" D.I.D. aluminum rim and had it custom laced with custom Buchanan stainless steel spokes to the factory hub.
*The tires and tubes are brand new Kenda Cruiser Sport tires, 140 rear BTW.
*The chain is a brand new RK Gold "O" Ring 630 size chain riveted together so there is no weak master link.
*The shocks are brand new Progressive Suspension shock absorbers.
*The Exhaust pipes are the factory pipes with the ends cut off, all baffles gutted out and the ends rewelded on reversed for that sunken cone racing look and a wicked racing engine sound.
*The carbs have been totally rebuilt and a glass beaded finish along with screened velocity stacks also that give a racing look and wicked sound with screens for safety.
*The oil tank as been flushed, refinished and I built Aeroquip custom stainless braided oil supply lines with red Earl's clamps.
*The bike is painted Viper Red on the front fender, tank and seat assembly.
*The tank is a CR750 fiberglass replica from Team Hansen's.  Just to be extra careful I used Hirsch's fiberglass tank sealer as overkill protection.  The tank has the aluminum flip top cap from England that is very authentic and very cool.  Also, I used a racing Pingel petcock to supply fuel to the carbs and securely shut off the fuel.
*The seat assembly is also from Team Hansen's and I had a auto restoration company here in Detroit make the custom seat cover to the specs of the factory racing bike, number, placement and size of pleats .. etc ......
*The fender is from a older Honda, (maybe a 450) all steel and reversed for the CR750 look.
*I fabricated the aluminum rear tail light assembly/license holder to work with the racing seat section.
*The decals are replica decals from a guy in England that makes them, and are VERY high quality.
*The clip-ons are two way adjustable with chrome bars and aluminum mounting brackets.
*The controls are factory and horn, high/low beam, starter and kill switch.
*The mirror is a convex 2" CRG custom mirror that works better than you might think and looks very subtle on the bike keeping the racing lines.
*The brake lines are new stainless braided lines, the throttle cables, clutch cable, levers are all brand new Motion Pro.  The front master cylinder and both calipers have been totally rebuilt with all new internals.
*The kickstand is a brand new chrome unit with new spring.
*A manual analog VDO oil pressure gauge is mounted onto the engine.
* Other stuff I've forgotten ......

Here is this bikes before:

This is my favorite angle shot on this bike, or any CR's:

Superhawk style instrument faces & aluminum flip top cap:

Ride on!

Mike,

Love the bike, I voted for it. Something about the racer mods that appeal to me (other than stock of course ;)). I'd be chewing Tylenol after riding one for an hour, but it would probably still be fun. ;D

a deserving win... i honestly didn't think it would turn out w/ 3 soooo close.  edosm and mike were neck and neck throughout the month w/ steve and cc trailing way behind.  edosm lead the race for the majority of the month.

it would seem that steve's followers are slackers and perhaps cc's are unconscious?   ;D

I'll say it now, anybody that has a bike good enough to be nominated has a winning bike regardless of the vote. Like anyone here wouldn't take any of the entries.

This months contest had to be one of the hardest, all four of them cafes and not a stocker in sight to confuse the issue.

I was torn between the first two until the CR turned up, how could I not vote for that one ::) ::) ::) ::)

I have left the mention on 736s until last for one reason, I seem to remember that you bought it more or less as it is now apart from the paint job whereas the other three have been recrafted by their respective owners, but still a nice looking bike that I would be proud to own.

CRs two months on the run.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well done to you all. 8)

Glad you won, it is well deserved, especially considering all the personal attention to detail in turning a good candidate for a full stock resto into a lean, mean CR replica.

It'd be neat to have all these CB750's together at a meet someday. Good company to run with. Congrats to the winner, mikeb4. I got a kick out of my ride being nominated. My MAD MAX bike ain't exactly show-worthy, but its a mean ride.
Interestingly, I've noticed the hottest trend around these parts for Hot Rods and bikes is to show up in a vintage ride as it was built from its era. Rat rods and rat bikes are cool, baby.

Wait'll next month (if somebody will nominate my candy gold sandcast resto from this past winter?)

To be honest 736, I'm not a big fan of your Yosh bike, I can appreciate it's significance, and I'll bet it's a fantastic ride, but something about it as a whole doesn't quite gel for me :-\

This, on the other hand:

Is simply stunning :o 8) and I will be honoured to nominate it for next months contest if nobody beats me to it ;D

Now you're selling it!?!?!

Yes, I really have my eye on a new boat and honestly I really enjoy building them, I'll probably start something else up this winter.  I wanted to sell it before the season was over this summer.  Wish me luck with the auction, lot's of response to the machine already and I just put it up last night.

Let me say beforehand, I painted my engine in the frame too.  That said, I'd take those pictures out.  Even if you didn't paint it in the frame I'd take that one picture out because it looks like it.  Just my opinion.
Second, a damn shame to see that bike being sold.  That is really one of the more beautiful bikes on this board.  I'm not a restoration type guy (you can tell by the way I've bastard-ized my bike) and yours just has an awesome style and feel to it.  On the same note, I build bikes because I enjoy building them, riding them and then moving on to the next project.  It's always nice to make a few bucks on each project while I'm at it.
Last, someone needs to nominate my bike.  One of these days I'm going to sell it so I could use the bullet on my resume.  Thanks in advance!

Actually that's interesting that you interpreted one picture as a frame painted engine.  It's a pic that shows I covered the freshly painted frame with sheet foam while installing the engine into the frame.  I thought the previous picture was good that showed the engine completely was out of the frame.   It's funny how you think people will interpret photo's and how they actually do think they show.  I don't think I would be able to paint an engine in the frame and be really happy with the outcome, I use a small section of CB750 frame I bought to hold the motor for painting and refinishing.

At this point I can't change the pics since there is a bid, but I appreciate the comment!

I figured you did but I didn't take a long look at the auction this morning before work.  Just that one pic stood out and I clicked on it.  You should be fine, someone interested in buying is going to be looking a lot closer than me.  I'll probably keep it in my watched items, I'm curious what it goes for.  Good luck!!!!  Once again, beautiful bike and great job!  Don't forget to encourage your buyer to join the website.   ;D

Whats the top-end speed for that bike w/ its stock motor? Probably a little over 105 downhill.
