where to get some oddball pieces
« on: July 16, 2007, 03:28:40 PM »
im in the middle of rebuilding some cb500 carbs (627B) and i was wondering where to get the little felt type of seals that go on the choke shaft, and also where to get the o-rings that go on the fuel T's. there are 8 o-rings that are the same size.

i just looked at that site you posted, and its very helpful and i will use it in the future. but the o-rings look like they are only included in a gasket kit that is about 10 bucks, and it says 4 are required. i already have the carb rebuild kits. i was just wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem and what they did to fix it.

I found some very attractive pink felt and cut some with a set of hole punches. Now dust has turned the pink to a sensitive new age pink brown!

haha so you did use just some standard felt, cut it to fit, and have had no problems? if so that sounds like a great fix. (cheap) now all im really worried about is getting these o-rings.

im going to a bunch of stores today to try and get those o-rings. but the more i look at that felt choke shaft seal, the more difficult it looks to make. is there a trick to making these? i have one i can use as a copy. its a really thin ring of felt. im sure i can make the outside edge out with scissors, but the inside edge will be the challenge. any suggestions?

Two short chunks of tubing of the right size, sharpen the edge and tap it with a hammer.

I've got a collection of spent shells and odd chunks of tube for that purpose in the junk drawer.

yea i ended up going to the crafts store, getting some felt and a cheap leather hole punch set. it didnt really work at all. i just put the carb back together, i think it should be alright without it. (at least i hope so). it does have the plastic washers pushed against the carbs, and its all tight, and when the choke is open it doesnt matter anyways.
