Howdy
« on: July 19, 2007, 03:31:26 PM »
Hi all,
I just got my first bike about a month ago from my uncle. She's a 1980 cb650 custom in need of a good home and a lot of work after being in storage for 22 years. Now I plan on doing about every thing I can (with plenty of help) to get her running once again. Needless to say it will be quite an endeavor for a novice such as my self. But the engine is not seized and she turns over so I've got hope.
Anyways, glad to be part of the group.

I was in the same boat 6 months ago. Free bike, sitting for 20 years and I had no idea what I was looking at... if your serious, your going to enjoy this project very much. Welcome and you've come to the right place... TONS of knowledge here.

Yep. Kind of funny isn't it? I am glad to know it can be done though.
Thanks for the warm welcomes all.

I was kind of in the same situation when I got my '79 CB650. Bought it off ebay HOPING that it wouldn't need any serious work. Got lucky and all it needed was a battery, rotor, and carb cleaning. Carbs would be the first thing to look at, then check spark. If the motor turns freely and doesn't make any strange noises, that's probably all you'll have to do. Welcome to the forum and good luck on your project!!

Welcome. Finish-wise she looks to be in pretty decent shape.

That's where I am at now. Replaced the battery and plugs and got a spark. Next took the carbs off and they are not moving very freely, so that's what is next I think. Thanks for the good luck wishes. I will likely need it.

Yeah, she still looks alright given the time spent in a garage. The exhaust is rusted through in a couple places, and she could use a good cleaning and polish. Other than that though I was not disappointed.
