cheapest, best source for tires online?
« on: July 19, 2007, 09:39:14 PM »
I have been comparing tire prices between Dennis Kirk and Tires Unlimited.

Hands down, from what I can tell Tires Unlimited is the cheapest source online. Is there another outlet I should check out?

Also, has anyone in here bought/used Shinko tires? Yeah I know they are Chinese, but I don't have deep pockets and the radial they sell that I am looking at is around $45 new (rear: 120/90 18")

Thx

Never bought from them, but have heard good things about...

http://www.swmototires.com/

Prices are pretty good and shipping is free if you order 2 tires.

I ended up getting one tire from Dennis Kirk, and the other from MAW.

Me too. http://www.americanmototire.com/ I just bought a pair of Metzelers for a CB550F I am getting on the road.  Best prices, FAST shipping and quality products.  I made the mistake of not buying tubes from them with my order. Locally the tires and tubes are up to 30% more expensive.  Seems the Michelin tubes are the way to go, order a set of those as well and you will be good to go.

I'll make it three for http://www.americanmototire.com/. I recently bought a GT501 from them after extensive research for the cheapest tire shipped. Friendly customer service too...

I run Shinkos on the VF and i have found them to be an alright tire. They have taken a #$%* load of abuse from my riding style yet come back for more. However when it comes time to change the tires out its getting either Bridgestone Batlax BT-45s or Dunlop GT501s.

I second, third, or forth americanmotortire.com! The best price around and they ship quickly and fairly cheap when you consider the weight and size of two tires. I should get my new set of Dunlops tuesday.

Hey Scott!

Haven't seen you around for a while.  How've you been?  How's the business after the move?  Are you coming down to balloon festival?

I tried http://www.americanmototire.com/

Unfortunately it's just another place taking your money for products that don't exist.

But they sent the refund without any of my additional personal services, plus an email admitting they take your paypal funds for things that don't exist.

What is to explain?

They took my money for something they don't have.

If I give money to someone, I mean it.  If someone takes my money in exchange for something they don't have, I assume they are fraudulent and not simply incompetent.  I didn't ask them to check their inventory.  I sent funds to bind a contract on the product offered.  Waste of my services and another chance for my financial information to be missused.

This is the email:

Thank you very much for your order.  Unfortunately, one or more items on
your invoice are currently out of stock.  You can check which item is out
of stock and the tentative restocking date on your order by clicking on the
"check order status" link contained in your order confirmation.  Since we
cannot process your order, you have been refunded in full and your order has
been cancelled.

If we can assist in any way at all, please don't hesitate to contact us at
customerservice@americanmototire.com .
We would be happy to work with you on your current order, answer questions,
or help with suggestions on alternate items which are currently in stock.

Thanks again!

I've gone through www.onoffroad.com. They've always had the best prices for the Conti tires I run on my CB750 and they ship quickly.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but from what you describe that just sounds like good customer service to me.  You place an order for a tire that it turns out they are out of stock on, and they immediately refund your payment along with an explanation about what happened without you even having to request it.  Where's the problem?

I have cherry 1967 Corvette.  If you send $200,000 to my PayPal account, I will check my inventory.

This is great customer service and I appreciate that.  But it is fraudulent to take money for things you don't have or don't belong to you.

Long enough to be criminally liable.

Long enough to be criminally liable.

I seriously doubt there's any law that states a retail establishment may not accept payment for an item that they don't have on hand at that exact moment, but hey, I could be wrong.  Besides, they removed all liability from themselves by refunding your payment.

I still fail to see what the problem is, but that's just me, and you're certainly not required to explain your stance to me, either. :)

It's called the United States Uniform Commercial Code.

And they are not retail.  In retail transaction, you select an item that physically exits before you contract by exchanging funds.

It is fraudulent to except money in exchange for things you dont have.  This is why compliant vendors don't charge your finances until they find and ship your property.
