will a 1979 cb650 tank fit a 1980 with out modification

will it bolt right up with the same petcocks.

       I'd be interested in that myself, since I've gotten one myself that doesn't have a tank on it. Be a while before I get to it but, I'll be collecting info and ideas as I go along. ;) 8)

yeah because someone already told me the 81/82 is a different petcock.

A 79 is a diff styling.  Might be made to fit 80/82 if you change the mounts.  80/82 were the same style mounts and everything except the bung and the petcock.
80 was small (79 size) 81/82 bigger along with fuel line.  Went with the cv carb change I guess.   You can force (and crimp) the lines to fit.  My head hurts now.

how hard is it to change the petcock and bung from an 80 to an 81/82 or is it easy

I installed the 79 tank on the 81 bike I have. the tank fits great with the right rubber mount( front) i dont have the rear mount and seat, so i cant talk about that. it come inline of the bolt on the y , but on the center of the junction. the petcock sit about 3/4 inch of the cylinder head

so a 79 tank will fit with little modification i take it from the last response. what are you saying about the petcock and cylinder head.
