I really like some of the different wheels that guys on here use. I am sticking with the comstars though because I dont want the hassel of changing them....anyone do any thing cool with them I was thinking of just blacking them out. any pics or ideas would be awesome.

And my Comstars are silver and I don't want them to be black. Plus I am lucky having a set of "cup in" with the smooth almost machined and bead blast billet look, before they switched to "cup out" in 1979! I have a friend that has the "cup out" on his 81 CB900 and he HATES them! But he did remove the black paint and polished them which contrasts with the black tires.

The best way to remove the paint is with Aircraft Stripper. Mar-hyde makes one in a spray can called Tal-Strip that is fantastic. Just spray it on, let it set for 5-10 minutes, and then wash the paint off with a garden hose. This stuff will not attack aluminum or steel, but it takes the paint off completely, right now. One of the best products to use when restoring old cars/bikes that I have found.

if i took the paint off with that stuff would it rust....if i didnt repaint it. what are those comstars made of.

I second the Aircraft Stripper! Great stuff and can be bought in either a spay can (were a mask and gloves) or a paint can so you can paint it on...

Several coats will be required...

I liked my comstars soo much('79 650) I blasted them, and had them powdercoated.

or would i have to put clearcoat or something on them i would like to leave them bare if possible and they wont rust.

The easiest way to check for that is to put a magnet on the metal; if it sticks it'll rust, if it falls off it might corrode, (magnesium or aluminum for example), but it won't rust.

Nice. Or maybe color match the tank and side covers. Though it would depend on the color. would not want to scare anyone.

Truth be told .....

While the rotors are drilled the color of the actual pad surface is just overspray from painting the rotor edges and hub.

First application of the brakes will leave a shiny metal surface with a perfect circle where the pads ride.

Hey all Ive been running the black comstars on my 73 750K with minimum mod to the back one (spacer) differance when useing the complete hub assembly off of the 81 750C now when useing the hub off the 73 and my sisters 74 750K I took a grinder to the lip on the brake drum I know sounds scary but ( did this 20 some years ago and have had no ill effects my dream would be to chrome them babys but wallet wont let me but sis has a powder coating set up so might just do that not sure on colors yet (wether I would match the gas tank and side covers guess it would really depend on what color I chose good luck have fun Craig in Maine

Here's mine looking similar. Grey painted spokes, polished rims (still a bit of polishing to go when this was taken.)
