Hello! New to this board
« on: July 22, 2007, 08:20:36 PM »
Just received  my 4600 mile 1977 CB400F.  The bike is all original and I mean all original. From tires to mirrors.  It is in about 6 boxes.  The previous owner took it apart and then never had the time to put it together.  I have started to assemble it.  Got the front end and rear on.  But as I was taking an inventory of the parts, I noticed it has nut, bolts, and a assortment of fasteners missing.   Then I took apart the carbs to check them because the slides were not moving.  The carbs had a layer of varnish in them.  Cleaned them out, but in the process of removing the float on one carb the pin got stock and the bracket arms that holds it snapped  Any suggestions on repair would be appreciated!  This looks like a cool and fun sight.  Looking forward to being on board!!

Welcome to the insanity!!

We have a member that cam micro weld your carb for you. I'm sure someone can come through with his name considering I don't recall it.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Ain't that always the way with a boxed vehicle. :-( Someone brought up the subject of fastener suppliers some time back. I bookmarked one site for fasteners, but it seems relatively useless upon a recheck. A search may turn up something for you. There may be something for fastener providers in the parts suppliers FAQ, and of course, if you can find a bike boneyard near you, you might do best there. Allen screw sets for the covers can be purchased on ebay. Many of us replace them because the original phillips screws get stripped over time.

Welcome.  Common fasteners are something a dealer will always be able to get.  A good dealer will also have generic hardware.  A great dealer will know when generic will do or when you need factory.  I hope you have the latter.  So, what part of the world are you in?

Thanks for all the info guys.  I found a friend who  drilled and tapped the carb.  Then I JB welded it.  Hope it works.  Got the title today.  Owner told me it was a 1977, but turned out to be a 1975.  No big deal. The bike is missing some parts so a a bone yard is going to be in my future. I live in Illinois, USA.
