530 Conversion: Is this right??
« on: July 23, 2007, 05:53:30 PM »
I got my local bike shop to order me 530 sprockets and a 50 link DID chain for the 750 and I picked them up today.  But look at the difference in diameter of the two sprockets? Won't that cause problems with the chain? I believe the primary sprocket is slightly smaller as well, but but from and rear sprockets have the same number of teeth (43 and like 14, off the top of my head I think).

Notice shiny new sprocket on top, and dirty brown old 630 sprocket on the bottom. Click to enlarge.

That new sprocket has 39 teeth, not 43.

How did you arrive at 50 links?  Do you mean 100?

The 630 is 88 links (or thereabouts).  When I converted to 530, I needed 104.  It could vary a little depending on the sprockets (how many teeth); but 50?

I'm missing something here.

Oops! Yes, 100. Do you think that a chain that short will work? I guess I'll just have to adjust it all the way up.  And I did order a different rear sprocket, now that I think about it.  I take the bike on a lot of interstate/high speed cruising trips, so I thought that would work a little better.

Do a search here for '530 conversion' and you'll see all the threads we've had on it recently.  Some had some good explanation for how the conversion works/ought to be done (if doing it).
