CL350 - New to the scene. Just purchased this bike.
« on: June 25, 2007, 10:42:32 PM »
Hi, guys, i just bought this CL350 Last week, Next week im going to get my bike licence.

Im very new to motorcycles all together but im super excited to learn, and make this bike better.
I bought my first bike in the fall of 2006, its a 2006 Ducati Monster S2R1000, but ive been lusting over the Cafe bikes so i just had to pick this one up when i found it on craigslist last week.

I havnt got it home yet, hopefully by the end of the week, but this is what it looks like now, i really want to change the exhaust as that checker plate heat shield bothers me alot. What do you guys think.

Very cool, looks like some good potential. Interesting tank, I think someone with more knowledge can identify it for sure. But looks like a CB200T tank? Oh and your first bike was an S2R? I think I can join with most in saying holy crap! Heck of a 'learner's' bike. But I cannot deny my love for Ducs, just be careful on that thing.

I was thinking of picking up a Ducati Sport 1000 for a second bike, but that would be alot of cash and i dont want to pay that kind of insurance for a second bike. So this honda suits me just great. Im going to have a ton of fun with it.

I know it has :

-some sort of after market Aluminum wheels
-Dunstall bars
-exhaust is custom (ugly heat shield)
-Disk Brake front conversion
-Upgraded fork tubes ?
-Relocated battery
-Frame was reinforced, and welded along the seam where its pressed
-Tank from a CB400 im told, but it looks like the CB200 ones im seeing online so i dont know
-GPZ750 pistons with 11.5:1 Compression
-Rear sets are off of something else, i dont know what though.

Lots of stuff i cant remember, as i said, im new, if you guys spot something thats changed or aftermarket please let me know =)

-GPZ750 pistons with 11.5:1 Compression

Any additonal info?  For instance did the pistons need to be modified - or once the cylinder is bored do they drop right in?  Are they stock pistons for the GPZ?

Always liked the cl and cb 350's, just turned a CL down a while ago.

May be just me, but I think that diamond plate heat sheild is a lot nicer looking than some I've seen.

 definately is the cb200 tank.

Not sure where you'd look for info on the pistons, with cars/trucks you can easily find the compression height, deck height, pin location etc on the engines, so if you know what you start with you can pick and choose rods, pistons and cranks to match anything you want to build, looked, but can't seem to find the same info for bikes. Bore/stroke is just a starting point.

Ford SVO used to publish tables in their cataloges with all that information for every Ford engine from 4 poppers to eights.
Since I'm not a chevy fan I don't know if they ever published the same info, but friends are into shovies and do know where to look for it

Ken.

I absolutely hate the diamond plate because it looks home made =). I have my eye on an exaust if that doesnt pan out then ill think about making a new heat shield for this one and leaving it alone for now.

I will ask the Previous Owner about the pistons and further engine work when i pick the bike up in a couple days.  IIRC he said that they dropped right in, but im not sure.

Thanks for the compliments so far.

What is the chain for? Are you really afraid that somebody will steal it? (no offence intended)

Its not my place, those pictures are at the Previous Owners workshop. He doesnt live there so he has it locked with the chain just incase. You cant be to careful.

I wont keep it chained at home, i probably wont even have enough room to keep it in the garage, maybe i can try and figure something out but i dont think it will fit.

That heat shield can be easily made with a 20ga stainless sheet or 20ga Ti sheet. If you don't have the tools to cut it/bend it, a sheet metal shop should be able to do it for under $20 if you had everything marked out.

Personally, I would wrap the pipes and chop off the muffler. Have a look at my website: www.fiaccone.com/CafeRacer/Cafe.html
