Dare I say it? My official CB350 project thread...
« on: July 25, 2007, 11:23:17 AM »
Been a long time in the making. But here are the most recent pictures I have of my project, as copied from the Hondatwin Forum.

This is obviously a work in progress. Pulled the initial machine out of someone's shed. Been a long road since then, and it's still not even close to being done. This is the initial mock-up, making sure everything fits ok, making brackets, removing brackets, deciding on paint, all that.

Note: These are not the wheels/hubs I'm using. I am going to be using the rims themselves, but not the hubs. Included are some pictures of what it 'was'...enjoy.

How it sits:

How I brought it home:

There are other not as important pictures, but those show the progression of the whole thing. Also, had a question, there is this piece:

Which goes here:

You can see the brackets for mounting it in the last picture. I see people removing them, and relocating the kickstand. I'm ok with this. However, does this item play a role in the solidity of the frame? It's a pretty hefty piece, with pretty hefty bolts, and it would seem that if I removed it, there would be a large amount of structural rigidity lost. Any thoughts on this?

Steve

P.S. In case anyone is wondering what the final scheme is. Paint wise. I intentionally left certain items out of the pictures so I don't reveal it. But I promise, it will be very different. I just don't want anybody to go out do the same thing, that's bad.  :D

And yes, there is still LOTS left to do. But, it's getting there.

It is definitely on its way! Did you modify/replace the tank? It looks as if the faces are flatter.

The tank is from a 69 CB350SS, just with the paint removed, primed, ready for body work. Not the original one.

The wheels, the wheels I paid a little much for than I wanted, but they are exactly what I wanted, and are in good, albeit dirty, condition. They are from an XS650. OEM wheels. And they are chunky, which to me, is good. But as far as the flat-tracker statement, I definitely saw it once I put everything together. I am however not using those tires, so hopefully will bring it to be more of a street bike look. Gotta run, going to pick up a car. Will update later.

Love the rims.  Would love to put those on my 350, but it's gonna be awhile 'til I can put that kinda cash into them.

As far as wheel pricing goes, they were cheap. More than I wanted to pay for 'used' wheels. But still inexpensive. And the hubs I'll be able to sell when I get the 350 hubs laced in.

I'm no expert but I would be very surprised if they are OEM rims, they look like Borrani or copies.
Take a look through the 'wheel' brochure at this site.

Well, I'll have to check into that then! Wouldn't that be a find! If they do turn out to be something not OEM, I will most certainly not be powdercoating them then. I'm assuming there is a supplier stamp on them somewhere that should indicate where they are from right?

Well took a quick peak, they are stamped with what I can read as "Takasico" "Japan". I can't read much of the first word, but that's what I made out. So I'm thinking they are OEM, I think...I'll look into it more when I de-lace them and I can really clean them up.

ok, copies then, but my advice don't powder coat just polish them to give a near chrome look.
