Engine guards....
« on: July 25, 2007, 02:25:35 PM »
What have people done about putting on case guards on the 750K? I have a new pair, but, the bolt that goes through the bottom front of the engine is not quite long enough... it threads w/ the nut but only about half of what it should be. (nut is partially threaded, not completely thru...)

When I added them to my 1978 CB550K, I had the same problem. I went to our local mechanic shop with the old bolts and told them what I needed. They gave me longer bolts (and nuts & washers) of the correct hardness / tensile strength for $1. No problems so far, hope this helped. DrMark

Same prob.  I asked an old Honda mechanic who I respect.  He said "if you're not dragracing it, you can use allthread from Home Depot."  Claims they'd used that sort of stuff over the years without problems.  That's what I'll do when I get 'round to it.

I did what medic is going to do. I got a threaded rod and ran it through and cut it to the length I needed. You will need to get a nut, washer and lockwasher for each end. I did not actually measure mine before I cut it so it is a little long but will do the job this summer and sometime during the winter I will cut it down to where it needs to be. I thing, before you cut it, put the nuts on it so you can use them to repair the thread from the cutting process.

The rod I used is actually slightly smaller in diameter than stock but these engines are bolted in quite well. It was like maybe .5mm small so no biggie.

I would have done mine sooner, but I mistakenly bought and cut 12mm allthread instead of 10mm.  Now I've got no time to get more.  We had a thread on this a while back (I think I started it?).
