headlight out/ high-beam indicater on?
« on: July 12, 2005, 12:26:45 PM »
has this happened to anyone else? today when returning home from a ride i noticed my high-beam indicater on, even though the switch was on lo-beam. when i pulled into the garage i noticed the headlight out.after checking all wires and connections and fuse, the culprit was the light itself. my qustion is, is the high-beam indicater a sort of warning light for the headlight being burned out? i replaced the headlight now everything is back to normal. the bike is a 76 cb550k.

The high beam indicator illuminates when the blue headlight wires have 12 V on them.  It's a strange failure mode, but if the filament inside the lamp breaks and swings over to short the white and blue wire connections, you get no headlight and the high beam indicator will light.

Be sure to mention this feature to prospective buyers.  ::)
