Hello everyone, My name is Rob and I am currently a student at the University of Cincinnati (aerospace engineering, woo rocket science!) originally from Columbus Ohio and currently working on a co-op job in Dayon (more specifically, Bellbrook) Ohio.
I recently bought a 1975 CB550K (first bike that I've owned although I've ridden my dad's dual sports and crotch rockets) in stock layout in generally decent mechanical condition, although it could use a little tlc in the aesthetic department. I bought it from a guy just over the border into Michigan and rode it all the way back to Dayton in 40 degree weather.
Happily, it held 70-75 mph most of the way home with minimal complaining and no major handling problems. Unfortunately however, there were 3 instances of it simply loosing power completely and me having to pull over to the side of the road to work out some fuel dilevery problems (seemed like vapor lock maybe from the fuel lines sitting within 1 cm of the crankcase, or more likely a semi-clogged petcock or bad {u-shaped} routing of the fuel lines). Luckily, from some of the searches I've done on here already this doesn't seem to be too uncommon. Today I also noticed some fuel draining from somewhere onto the rider's right side pipe (stock kind of Harley looking 2-into-1 exhaust) So you may see some posts from me in the future on this subject if I can't easily trace it.
My plan for this bike is to put clubmans and a cafe seat and possibly make something that works for rearsets and go the cafe racer style. The paint is a decent black bomb job and most of the chrome needs some steel wool, but I think I have a pretty decent base to work from here.
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you all around the forum.
