Saw that, and 8 lane bridge! Last check said 3 dead. I have to believe there will be more. What? Why? How? Just a few of the questions that come to mind.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

My hometown.. thank god no one I know was hurt, but all the construction workers and rush hour commuters. I hope there aren't too many more.

Construction related ???

I fear the death toll could increase as they find more cars in the river :(

According to the BBC news website only one lane was open at the time, so it could have been a lot worse though :o

I travel that road and was just on that bridge last weekend. It's a very busy bridge, up towards 100,000 cars daily. Very sad ordeal and very sureal. I don't think I know anyone involved, but only time will tell.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all. :(

Pete, were we on that bridge last saturday?

Oddly enough, this is my stomping grounds. I once lived in a building one block from the entrance to that bridge. I spend a lot of time on campus over there- I dj'd at a few bars over there for a few years, so I like to cruise the bike that way as much as possible. Lots of old friends and good coffee.

Today I had just finished running to the bank and I decided I was going to take the bike for a spin. I take 94 to st paul and cross over to campus and take 35w back very, very regularly as part of my route. Today I was just over the river in st paul and I decided I needed some food and a bathroom break. I'm sitting there when my roomie calls me several times. I just kept hitting mute because I was eating, dammit! Finally, after 4 calls I pick up wondering what the hell the deal is. He asks if I'm alive and I rudely reply, of course- and you can keep your helmet jokes! He says that part of my route fell into the river and he was just checking to see if I was ok. I'm still a little shocked by it. I was not far from there and would have been on that bridge #$%*ing internally about how I didn't want my baby to overheat in the crazy weather. Tomorrow when I have to find a new half of a route to cruise I will be thankful that I wasn't full yesterday and I'm still in one piece- bike and body- to enjoy another ride.

Yeah, we rode right under the bridge on Sat. when we were riding the west bank river front road. Really spooky. I have a few pict. of fishing last weekend on Sunday with the bridge right in the background. :-\
