NAPA Filters
« on: July 30, 2007, 06:16:51 AM »
I have been using NAPA Gold filters (made by WIX) in everything in our stable for some time now.  Yesterday I stopped by my local NAPA to pick up a NAPA Gold filter for my Honda, only to find out it was no longer avaialble.  I ended up with a NAPA Powersports filter, since I needed to change the oil.  I had kept the lid off the old filter box for reference, so when I got home, I pulled it out to see what part number it had.  Low and behold, it was the same number as the Powersport filter, but without the PS prefix????

Later I happened to be back at NAPA picking up some parts for my son and I told the counter guy what I had found.  He replied that after I had left, he called corporate to see what was going on.  I turns out that NAPA is dropping WIX as a supplier in favor of different (which I assume means lower cost) suppliers for various filters.

It looks as if I'll have to see who ends up making what before I purchase more filters in the future.
