Finally done - thanks everyone
« on: July 27, 2007, 09:20:21 PM »
Now that I've finished the paint I can finally call it done! Thanks for everyone who has posted to this forum for providing me with the answers to all questions sohc4. Certainly one of the most informative forums I've had the pleasure to peruse.

Here she is after what amounted to a light resto without tearing into the engine (its a k6 pretending to be a k2).

I love that color, it's my choice for my next bike.
Now that it's done, how does it ride?

Have fun with it!!

I just got back from a three hour ride and it runs like a top! Only issue is the turn signals stopped working - off to the archives to sort this out.

wow, very nice!

how did you prep/paint the engine, it looks great.  am thinking about yanking my engine over the winter to address a small oil leak and dressing up the engine at the same time.  i don't think grit or bead blasting is the way to go, but am not sure.  thanks!

I pulled the engine, bead blasted then painted with with Duplicolor cast coat aluminum engine paint. Polished the aluminum bits. If I do it ever again I probably won't bead blast. While it was easy to do the beads get everywhere! I did a thorough job of masking and plugging up the engine before I began but there is always the lingering doubt that the damn beads made it inside the engine. Next time I'll just take more time and degrease until I'm high from the fumes.

thanks, have done some reading here and duplicolor is popular.  the reason i ask about bead blasting is that i saw r75/6 engine side cases that had been blasted and the surface was all pebbled - sucks for that guy.  anyhoo - nice job!

Very nicely done. I have a K0 I'am riding to work and gathering parts for. Insturments scratched a little, and left case has a pavment scrape. It will be a few months before I start working on it, there is a 67TR6 on the table now. Waiting for paint to be finished.
