Painted carbs
« on: July 30, 2007, 12:53:06 PM »
Has anyone ever painted your carbs? Was there any problems? I was thinking of painting the main body of the carbs and polishing or plating the bowls and top caps.Dannie

Only problems is if you dump gas onto your paint ;D

I think if you just paint the bodies you'll be fine as far as gas goes.

After all gas should not flow upwards.

I would recommend that you prime them with epoxy primer and us a good polyurethane paint. By good I mean NOT out of a @#$% spray can.

Give it time to set up and it should be fuel resistant.

Sounds to me like a perfect application for powder coating.

My 70's cafe came w/ black carbs. Held up all these years, don't know what paint was used. Heres how they look.

Enamel paints are really fuel proof. I had a puddle of gas next to the starter cover for days, I just wiped it up. No issues with the paint.
