Ok, I’m gathering parts for my café racer project and have decided I would like to use dual discs and I’m keeping it clean with no gauges (so when the officer says, do you know how fast you were going I can honestly say no). I have all the parts for the front end with one left caliper, and I’ve read plenty of info about using the same caliper set up on the other side. But what about the speedo gear thingy? Can it be removed? Is there a spacer that goes fits in? How should this be done?

it can be but you need to make a spacer the same thickness, and make sure you have sealed bearings.... other than that it should be ok..peace

Remember to check your local regulations. In some places, you may not pass inspection without a speedo.

also i tried using that... 'sorry officer my speedo is on the blink'..line... and got a speeding, and defect notice....buy one of the small after market speedos, unobtrusive, but still able to be used and protect yourself...( i had a rethink of my last post... fit a speedo and be safe)..peace

though if you were booked ton up... you have a valid excuss for not needing a speedo... and can use the line...' thats rediculas officer... this is a 30 year old bike... surely i couldnt have gone THAT fast'.. this will then leave him to check the manufacturer date and see that he did have it wrong and to let you off...peace

Most (if not all) of the states require a speedo for the bike. So unless you know somebody...wink, wink, nudge, nudge....you bike isn't going to pass (unless the inspector isn't paying attention). You can easily mount a mini-speedo in the back of the headlight an nobody will notice it.

That being said, cben is right, use a washer the same thickness and sealed bearings. Or you could just make a block off plate for the hole (you will still need the spacer). putting a working speedo drive on a cb750 fron end is as much a pain in the ass as deleting it entirely.

Another option you might consider is to use a goldwing front end. 75-77 is a bolt up, you get 38mm forks and an aluminum rim (instead of steel like the cb750) . Plus you get dual discs and a working speedo drive that isn't a pain in the ass and better calipers to boot. The whole thing is a bolt up with the right temkin bearings (I think it is goldwing lower and cb750 upper but I might have this backward).

You might get away with a tiny little bicycle computer setup for a speedo. Lots of them are wireless now too which is kind of neat.

Ok guys,, I really don’t care about having a speedo on this bike. I don’t plan on ever bringing this bike to inspection and I can have a mate give me the thumbs up once I hit a TON (each time).

That being said I’d like to mock up the dual discs before polishing and painting everything. Do you guys have any good sources for the sealed bearings and spacers?

where did you get the brake line splitter? does it have the sensor for the brake light? and what did you use for a right side brake line? steel braided lines?

Pablo, you brake light sensor is in the master area. There is a little button that gets pushed when you actuate your lever. Changing lines will not affect this.

i am running a VTR1000f master cylinder... though the original pressure switch , on the oem lower brake line mount should still work

Just so I make sure I have thins right for when I start the mock up. When I but the dual discs on I am omitting the spedo gearbox (#15), but what about the ratainer and cover (#9,8). Does anyone have a good source for a spacer, or will that be a custom item?

15,9,8,21... are not needed... and the spacer will probably need to be a custom pert... a machine shop should be able to spin one up in about 15min... just take the speedo drive in abd get the spacer made the same length as the centre bush of the drive box... peace

You can mount bycykle electronic /computer/speedo whit radio mounted sensor on the wheels (no wire) many biker pute xtras on the bike , http://www.cateye.com/en/products/viewProduct.php?modelId=43&catId=6&subCatId=0

For the front brake pump , there are a 1978/79 cb750F (cb900f) try to buy this yoused (I have a CB750K7 white CB900Bol`dor wheels and Brakes disk aloround front fork from latest CB750 F2 (77/78) AND Its are realy braking the bike.

this is what i am using.. my speedo is unreliable over 220km/h... and this reads to 300(

)... though as you say it does have a wire running down the fork... i just small cble tieded it to the brake line... peace

Hey Ben, why do you need a speedo that reads over 220Kph? Thats 137 Mph, which is about 20 Mph more than an F1 in perfect tune, with a tailwind is capable of, are you planning a full-house race engine? Keep us informed mate, sounds interesting! Cheers, Terry.

i actually had it on my firestorm when i changed the gearing... but it now in the big wreckers in the sky... so when the speedo went haywire on the F1 then i thiought cant afford to ge tit fixed atm, so just put the bike pc on the CB... seemed ok... and it reads heaps faster than the Cb is ever gonna get to...

.. so no i am not building a supercharged NOS SOHC street weapon... sorry for the high hopes...peace
