CB550 Racer
« on: July 08, 2005, 01:42:22 PM »
Hello,
Im the proud new owner of a 1978 CB550. Im looking for a bit of info and where I can get parts, please bare with me as this is going to be long.
First off, Im looking for some higher compression pistons, 10.5:1 or somewhere around there. Anyone know where I can get some?
Ive been looking at the megacycle cams, are these a good choice?
Ive heard of using CB750 carbs on the 550, Im not a newb when it comes to tuning carbs. Is it doable?
 Any prefered aftermarket clutch's?
I think im going to try my hand at making my own exhaust, but if that doesn't work out, what are the best makes available?
Any good suspernsion manufacturers i should know about? Im looking for new rears and new springs for the front.
And finally im looking for aluminum rims and stainless steel spokes, does anyone know where I could find them?

Thanks alot, Chris

Look @ Buchanan's for alloy rims  (they have a website).  they will lace them up for you with Stainless Steel spokes too.  Otherwise you may be able to fit a set of rims from a cb750A which were similar to the early goldwing rims - 40 spoke alloy - and lace them up to your hubs.
