Topic: sonic carb cleaning

Was browsing looking for info on carbs and saw the post about sonic cleaning for $400 for the rack.  I found in Ontario that does the same thing.  Website is www.siriusconinc.com.  They show charges as $60US for one carb, $110US for two and $200US for four.  Also says they will kit for $30Us each carb.  Just another option.  Will probably get my carb kits from them.  Only ones that I can find for the '78 style carbs that I have.  Still haven' t got them yet.  No money.  Hope to get the bike atr least running sometime this summer.

I don't know what bike you have, but I got my CB550 carb rebuild kits from Retrobikes (http://olypen.com/retro/) for 12 bucks a pop. Sirius is asking 17.50 a piece. However, these are the Keyster kits, the same kits that many here have cautioned against.

I think a can of Berrymans is like 15 bucks, can't remember exactly. If you're on a budget the Berrymans will work instead of paying 200 bucks for sonic cleaning. Yamaha carb cleaner is supposed to be less "nasty" than the Berrymans.

I have heard good things about the yamaha cleaner. It is not as caustic as the berrymans so you dont have to worry about forgeting a rubber oring or something like that. I would also not worry about sonic cleaning. I doubt it is any better than a good dipping and jet cleaners and certainly not worth $400.

It is hard to find carb kits for the 78s. I have one and it is damn near impossible. So unlike the rest of the SOHCers, we have to take what we can find. I think the keysters are fine given the situation. Although different tuning will be required.

If your interested I can ultra-soniclly clean them for A LOT cheaper then that, maybe $20 per carb, you pay shipping.
