Brake question, again-Newbie
« on: August 01, 2007, 08:25:10 AM »
Hello All,

I've got a '70 cb750.  I've rebuilt the front brake and installed the pads, using silicone grease on the backs.

Quick question: How far do I tap the pad in?  I see a raised "lip" on the brake pad, so I'm assuming that's as far as I go, but I'm unsure.  My fear is that there won't be enough space for the caliper to fit the disc and wind up dragging the brakes.  This is the first time I've ever rebuilt brakes, so I'm definitely a newbie.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and/or suggestions!

If you are talking about the static pad then you can push the piston in any amount to get the disc to fit and then just pump the brake to get the pad back to the disc.

Warning: you have to take the lid off your MC (Master Cylinder) to depress the piston and fluid will go everywhere.  Take the lid off but place the diaphragm over the MC. When pumping the brakes to get you pad back in place be sure to monitor you fluid level so you don't get air in the lines.  (I always bleed the brakes after I work with them just to be safe)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on anything. ;D

Good to know, Badger.

I didn't mention before that I'm in the process of doing the dual disc conversion, and have purchased stainless lines and a new master cylinder.  I haven't gotten far enough to install the new lines and master cylinder, but according to your post, (once I install everything) I should be okay once I add the fluid and bleed the brakes, no?
