Topic: How to remove burned sticker goo from chrome?

My new MSCS exhausts had these very little Made in Japan stickers on them about the 1/2 dime size.  I pulled them off but in haste to ride didn't wipe off the goo residue they left behind.  Anyway, the pipes got hot and now its on there.  Any idea on how to remove it.  Its only very small spots that cant be seen from over a foot away or unless your down looking for it.

Try heating them up again, then wipe with some really fine steel wool before the pipes cool.

Give acetone a try.  It's pretty good at removing stuff like that.

I wouldn't use the steel wool on the chrome.

As the previous post suggests try acetone or MEK.

Also Naptha, which is a easy to get solvent. It is the main component in lighter fluid. Try soaking the spot with Ronsen or Zippo lighter fluid, hell barb-e-q fluid will do the trick. Put a piece of paper towl on it an keep it wet for about 5 minutes, Should wipe right off.

Yes acetone or mek do wonders. Please dont use steel wool.  Just aquired another 650 and it looks like someone went over all the chrome with the #$%*.

Gee, I'm sensing my steal wool idea didn't go over too well.  All I can say is '00000' wool and WD-40 worked wonders on my chrome after 22 years. I was only suggesting using it to sort of drag the crap off after it softened again.. assuming it did.

It seems that no one has told you to use the acetone on COLD pipes.

I wouldnt go pouring acetone on pipes that are at CB running temperature.

If the stickers are only glued on I would be looking at eucalyptus oil on cold pipes.
It's pretty user friendly and will clear your airways without causing cancer.
Here in the great downunder we find all sorts of uses for the gear.

there's this stuff at the hardware store called goof-off, its for removing old paint and anything else that leaves goo. works great!

Yeah, I'm with you Bob.  Even 0000 steel wool polishes up chrome without leaving any scratches.  The coarser stuff will scratch though, as will scotchbrite.

But, it may be too late for the sticker goo.   Even finger oils can permanently discolor the chrome head pipes when they get hot.  It might be worth trying a product called Blue-away.  I don't know how it works.  But, it is a product sold specificaly for the purpose of removing the blue discoloration from chrome head pipes.  It's just a guess that it might work on glue contamination, too. Chris, You may find the goo will burn off to a powder. I would use plain denatured alcohol which will dissolve most anything but chrome.  One of those plastic scub pads would help a bit.

try "zippo lighter fluid"

just a little on a cotton ball or Q-tip and that old stickey crap should come right off.

plus you can find the stuff just about anywhere.



ps: verry improtant,  do not do this near open flame!  and wash off area with soapy cloth after.

IF we have problems  like scraths on Windshilds/Dirty no shine, we shine up Honda engienes /Dirty/rusty we shine up Exhoust pips 

WE by somtig  name  AUTOSOL  it coms in 100 grams tub AND 1000grams bags

It`s a Unirversal polish we her in scandinavia  us to this problem
