One Room School Encounter

We have had some great riding weather this summer so far, not great for farmers though, too dry. I've gotten out several times this week. Even though it was going to be one of our hotter days (low nineties) I headed out early and after 140 miles found myself back home. Along the way I stumbled across this one room school in the Waterloo area. There are several around, but many have been converted to homes. No particular reason, just thought I would post it.

This reminds me of the one room schoolhouse in the Eastwood movie
"Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and in particular
the scene where Eastwood and Bridges thumb a ride with
an absolute nut in a Dodge Charger--Great, crazy, scene!
Anybody remember ?

 One can learn much about the surrounding area by wandering around on quiet backroads. I do almost all my riding doing that. Have you considered a small windscreen yet Bob?  I know it would spoil the looks of the KO but the comfort... GHOF out

No, not for summer riding anyway. Might be handy in cooler weather, but so far I've been toughing it out. ;D Oh, and I usually stop riding when it's below 45F, so I guess that's more like wimping out. ::)

Hey Bob, I thought I recognized that school. I went by there today on my quest to find the end of North/West/East Territorial road. I need to find a geographic historian or some such thing. Maybe an 1850/1860/1870 map of Michigan would do. MapQuest helped me find my way to Berryville, just a crossroads. Also found some decent sweet corn. I ended up here at a boat launch on the Grand River at Tompkins road, nw of Jackson.

Kevin, I was surprised how far North Territorial goes myself. I did a few miles on a good unpaved road that day and just popped out near the school. Just wandering around I guess you could say. Next time you plan to be out this way, let me know. We'll get that picture of both bikes for our favorite painter. ;)

Yes, thats something I'd almost forgotten about. Lotsa showers in the near forecast though. Does AA have any kind of weekly bike meet?

Weather does look questionable for a while. No bike gathering that I know of. Just alot of whining about not being allowed to park stepthroughs and mopeds on the downtown sidewalks. ;D Almost anything is whining fodder in A2. ;)

Im ageing myself, but I went to school in a 1 room school house (no I didnt walk 15 miles uphill thru 5 feet snow drifts,...........well ..... just 3 times...) It was a 1 mile walk.....we were bussed in the 7th grade to town where the 'big school' was.  Ill always remember the teacher making us cut our own switches to be whipped with when we screwed up. My son is a elementry school principal, and he cant even raise his voice to a kid.
