Q about registering old CB750 in Maryland
« on: August 26, 2007, 07:19:06 AM »
Hey all,
I'm moving from Richmond, VA to Germantown, MD.

Registering my 73 CB750 in VA was a breeze, registered it as an antique motorcycle, one time register fee, no state inspection, no city sticker / fees, was able to use a 1973 VA motorcycle tag I bought from eBay.
I have looked on MD DMV's website, and didn't really see anything about 25+ year old cars/trucks/motorcycles being registered as antiques or something equal to that in Maryland.

Can any current MD resident give me some info on this?
Will I have to register it normally (the same as someone with a 2006 Ducati, for example)?
If so, will it be subjected to a safety inspection?

Will I have to add things to the bike to make it pass, such as blinkers, chain guard, windshield?
As the bike sits now, it's pretty damn chopped down to bare bones, a real stripper.
Since I am moving to Germantown, and will have to get my cars smog tested, does the bike have to pass this test too?

I am kind of nervous about what will happen, can anyone tell me what I can expect?
THANKS!

Noah

Noah,

If you register the bike as HISTORIC or Street rod there is no inspection. However the requirements for Historic and Street rod is:

To qualify as a historic vehicle, your vehicle must not have been substantially altered, remodeled, or remanufactured from its original construction, and must be 20 model years or older.

"Vehicles classified as historic certifies the vehicle will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses.  The vehicle owner further certifies the vehicle will not be used for general daily transportation or primarily for the transportation of passenngers or property on highways".

Also there is no emissions for motorcycles in Maryland. If you do decide to register normally then, yes it will need to pass inspection.

Either way, you need insurance.  State regulations and because the one who runs into you won't have any.
