Make sure you have a "current bill of sale". You are not responsile for a previous owers back DMV fees. In other words, don't go to the DMV with a bill of sale 2-3 years old.

On this topic anyone have info about registering a bike that has been off the road for a long time in California.
I dont have the same problem of no title. I bought the bike with a title for $350, but to transfer the title and register it, the DMV wants $750. Ouch!
The previous owner last registered it in 2002. I guess when i bought it I didnt think the back fees would be that crazy, little did I know. People always talk about the bikes dropping out of the system but I think the DMV always charges 3 years back registration dont they?
I asked if I could register it non operational and to just transfer the title while I fix it up, but I still have to pay the $750 before I can do even that.
Can I register out of state and then do the same thing transfer registration back to California? or am I SOL. Im not looking to get away with not paying my fair dues but the $750 really stings.
Any one who has had this experience in California?
