CV carbs
« on: August 06, 2007, 05:37:56 PM »
DOHC 81 CB750k Have been trying to get this one running and looking OK  to have something to ride while I restore my 70 750.I got it running good but it started poring gas out of the overflow tube on #3. I pulled the bowl off to check the nettle and seat, this is the nettle with rubber tip,it looked OK. after having it off and on several times and changing the nettle anyway and the float and float bowl it stopped but then #2 started poring gas just like #3 was. WHAT is going on here? Any help please. Dannie

It sounds as if the fuel line, and the T('s) and the fuel pipes between the float bowls, need to be flushed and cleaned with the float valves taken off. If dirt or rust from the fuel tank have been trapped in there the dirt will be collected between the float valve and float valve seat preventing the float valve from closing properly. I would also check the fuel tank and the screen in the petcock to prevent a problem like this.
I had the same problem with my CB650 when I got it btw. Cleaning those things I mentioned took care of it. I also put in an online fuel filter between the petcock and the carbs.

The joy of fixing up old bikes. 8) Glad you got it running good though.
And I hope you can solve the charging problem. Btw, if you need new brushes for the alternator I know an online dealer that is selling them for a pretty good price.
