Happy 550 Owner
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:10:51 AM »
Well I just got my 550 running at after about 1 1/5yrs of working on her. She was a non- runner when i got her. She sat outside for 8yrs. I rode her around the neighborhood for about 10miles to let the motor warm up and in case something went wrong. After feeling good about the first test ride i decided to take her out on the main rode. I got her up to 70. She was pulling strong though all the gears. . I was a very happy owner. I still have some issues though.

Need new right hand switch.
Takes forever to kick start (I have used a small Squirt of starting fluid to assist,). After it warmed up she starts on the first kick
Carb#3 leaks real bad when running.
Idles around 2100-3000 Can not get lower then that. (I need to recheck Pilot Jets and Slow Jets)
And I may need to do a vacuum sync.

I just want to thank everyone for a great site.

Congratulations.

I remember the very same procedure after getting mine going. I kept thinking, when I wanted to go farther from home, remember Bob, you did the work on this thing. ;D Eventually I began to trust it more and more. Not necessarily my work, but Honda's engineering that created these nearly bullet proof machines. ;)

the hard cold start and high idle sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

Congrats on getting her on the road.

Nothing quite like the feeling of getting one of these beauties running.  Enjoy the buzz!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
