Resistor plugs
(1/1)
Harry:
Uhm, what would be the symptoms of running resistor plugs like DR7ES with resistor caps? Anyone? This is the current setup in my 500F, and I remember Bryan Jones in a greenspun.com specifically warning against the use of resistor plugs in the 500s.
eldar:
Well you would have weaker spark and that would result in bad fuel economy and loss of power. It may also be harder on your coils causing premature failure. Other parts of your ignition system may be damaged as well. I do not know the full consequences of this.
Ibsen:
I don't know the 500, but I'm running both on my 650 whithout any problem. But since the 650 have got an electronic ignition system, that might explain why it works. On a points ignition I would belive the double resistance will be a bit to much.
You can increase the power to the coils though, by power feed the coils via a double automotive light relay. It's an easy modification, and you will ge a noticeable better spark.
CHUNG:
Less resistance, less friction Sounds great to me. Hell.. a major goal for most relationships as well :-* I've always (given a choice) run "Solid" Copper wires, Non resistor caps and Non resistor plugs. Perhaps someone can give us the blow-by-blow of how this resistor "thing" actually does it's suppression of the dreaded emitions that mess up the AM radios in our automobiles. :-\ The resistor wires form a magnetic sheild along their length with a set of windings. But we never could figure out how that bitty wire and all that hair could be better than the milti strand wires that we were using for 1/2 the cost?
