I accidently hit Buy It Now! on eBay for a motorcycle!!!!
« on: July 31, 2007, 06:28:53 PM »
Dear fellow SOHC'ers:

Yall have been like family to me and I do still have my CB, albeit in pieces.

Will my favorite Simpson helmet stolen, I was having a really bad week.

I fell asleep on a bid for my Buell Chopper and I needed something to get over it.

I was eyeing a Yamaha Roadstar Warrior.  Until 7 days ago, I didn't even know what it was.

I was willing to pay $6500 and the highest bid was $5000 with 2 minutes left.  He was asking $8200 for it.
So then he lowered it to $7200 and I accidently hit Buy it now.  I now have 24 hours to decide if I should go ahead and take it or not.  I went to rswarrior.com (kinda like our forum but with a bunch of Warriors) and they said the only bad thing was that he exaggerated on the 135 hp and TQ (what ever that is!).  The real hp is around 87.  The NOS alone, they tell me is $1200.

Do yall think I should go thru with it?

I suppose I can explain my situation to "JoeCon" and I am not the type to renig, even on eBay.  I hate dishonesty so I just want a second opinion.

Thanks for listening.

i think he means torque (TQ) . as far as what to do, I think he may be a bit pissed if you back out, but I would figure what it is worth to have him pissed at you. did you not have a notice after you hit the buy it now, or a confirmation step?

ok.. I'm confused.
I can possibly accept that you hit the b.i.n. button accidentally. Then the next page loaded. Did you click the confirm bid button accidentally too?

His sketchy description, feedback, and the tone of his q&a responses would have turned me off right away.

Speaking of feedback.. in his short ebay career, he has received 1 negative and posted 4.. you will probably be number 5.

Speaking of short ebay careers.. you haven't much to lose by killing the account and starting over with a new name.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Yeah, I have another account anyways but there was 2 minutes left and I panicked about not getting my bid in.  *slaps forehead*

I thought it said, "are you sure you want to MAKE a bid"  not "confirm the bid" .  I was like, yeah I'm sure I want to make a bid.  So basically it's $700 more than my highest bid .

my comment was simply based on the fact that for 6500 he was willing to overlook his remarks... why not an extra 700 if he can cough it up?  you know?

in the seller's defense... i think his response was perfectly reasonable and he admitted to copying and pasting.  the last remark probably just came in simultaneously to the 3rd, or he just wanted to get the seller's goat, which is why the seller might have responded the way he did.

Yep.  You had to accidentally hit the Buy it Now, and then accidentally confirm your purchase on the next screen.  The two honorable choices here are either pay for what you agreed to buy, or at least offer to pay the seller for the listing fee he's out because of your mistake.

I should have included the above possibilities.

If you have the extra $700 to play with......... and it doesn't make funny noises...... go ahead......
Everybody can have happy feedback then.

You could offer him the $6500 that you were going to bid and see if he takes it. He can get the final value fee reduced if he sells it for less than $7200. It can't hurt to try.

The negative that your seller has is from another seller - and appears to be for bidding and then not following through. If he can do it to someone else......... fair is only fair.

Try negotiation and see what happens, I guess.

Happy trails.

Yeah, that's a great way to live your life (if you're five).  Besides, someone can write whatever they want to in a feedback, regardless of whether it's true or not.  We have no idea of what actually happened to make that seller leave a negative feedback.  Only a pattern of the same type of feedback from different users can tell a somewhat reliable story.

Oops. I guess I should have laid the sarcasm on a little thicker. Enough to be obvious, anyway. ???

Anyway... there was only a binary solution to the issue:
(1) pay the man. ;D
(0) flaky is as flaky does. >:(

Cc chose (1) and is probably out enjoying his new toy.(instead of typing)
Congratulations! Best of luck with your 'one off custom hot rod Yamaha Warrior super bike caled "syco bit*h"'.
Keep the rubber side down and keep us posted! ;D ;D ;D

Happy trails!

BTW: In 8+ years I have retracted ONE bid - typed $12,00 instead of $12.00 oops.

Well, I would say you should in all honesty pay the man.

Hitting buy it now once , ok I believe that, but
hitting Confirm 2nd time, no, sorry, I don't buy that.
THEN if you really don't like it,
you can sell it.

As primarialy a seller, I always put non-payers on a permanent
'no sell to  list' on both ebay and all my friends websites.
peace,
